Hi...

I am quite impressed since buying the TV a few months ago, but through SCART, my ps2 games looked, quite frankly SH*T!

So I heard about component cables, so I thought I would get one, improve my ps2 quality, and it would free up the scart socket for something else.

Just found out that my TV has Y /Pb /Pr component inputs. Conveniently you need Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr component cables for any media that I use to work. :thumbsdow

Now I'm not stupid, but who the **** came up with the idea to use the same colour cables, and give it the same name, but allow totally different media to use it?

Looks like i'm buggered playing through component on my tv? (UNLESS ANYONE KNOWS A WORK-A-ROUND?) So can you tell me the point of this component input, if it doesn't allow fairly bog-standard media?

Cheers

I might be mis-understanding you, but I think that you are confused, and they are one and the same. Any video 'component' cables should work from PS2,PS3 xbox360 dvd player, whatever, just match up the colours and you're away...

As much as I would like that to be the case... I don't think it is. :thumbsdow

There is great confusion over the 'net as well

At the back of my television I have:
component-video-port.jpg

And also L & R for audio (red and white) in the same boxed area.

I am then led to believe that you use these between a dvd player and your TV, and then some external red and white audio leads or an optical lead.

When looking at ps2 component cables, they all clearly state: your TV must have Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr compatible inputs

As you can see, the playstation cable, has all 5 cables in one.

Sooooo, I think the Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr must include the audio as well. No other component cables apart from ps2 ones, come with the red and white audio leads.

You may now say that it sounds the same and it should work, BUT the ps2 manual states it needs Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr and I have seen a couple of posts after trawling the t'internet which state they didn't realise that their tv has the wrong input, so the cable didn't work......

So, you know I'm still unsure, and tbh i've spent the past 2 days getting mightily p*ssed off as certain websites are getting things wrong, or misunderstanding things.

I think the Y, Pb, Pr is standard component input and works with dvd players with these inputs as well, maybe the Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr is more specialised for other devices.

I know this is a lot to take in, but i've been getting so wound up about this, so if you have ANY suggestions, please, please help.

:lease:

Taken from another site - pretty much sums it up :(

"I have no idea why Sony claims that Y Pb Pr is the "HDTV" format. Apparently the difference between Cb Cr and Pb Pr is that one is digital and one is analog but both are capable of the same video formats. But then, labeling it Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr doesn't even make much sense because the R-G-B component cables are always analog.

I remember trying to determine what the difference was between the two formats and after all my research I still couldn't come up with a definitive answer... and apparently that is because so many companies have mislabelled their inputs that the definition no longer means anything.

Chances are that it will work fine... particularly if you have a good name-brand TV..."

Should be getting the cable on monday

Doubt whether it will work

Im a bit lost but my ps2 has 3 connectors which go straight to av3 on my 26Lc2r,and give a pretty good pic.I've tried the component leads with no connection problems and found the pic to be worse.

You have the same tv...GREAT

Let's work together :D

AV3 is the composite input on the side I think YELLOW/RED/WHITE - composite is the worse connection possible.

EDIT: I read in another thread that you have a samsung, can you check if the component cables work on your LG tv with your ps2?

Samsungs long gone! AV3 is on the back NOT the side.

Oh, AV4 on the side then?

Bit annoying that only one of the scart sockets is RGB, as I connect DVD and freeview up via scart, the dvd player has to suffer slightly poorer picture quality.

I think I will hook dvd via component, along with my ps2 via component - will have to buy some box splitter or something for that.

I use my ps2 as a dvd player and get a good pic.
As I said earlier I tried component leads and ended up ditching them as I wasnt impressed!

What was the picture like then? Just crap? Or wobbling, not really compatible

Did you try changing the output 720p etc? Also the resolution

At the moment through scart my ps2 games look all jagged and washed out, much worse than on my old crap tv

Picture was very jagged and dark.I dont understand why you are using scart for your ps2,why not use the lead supplied with it into av3? Pic on mine is fine.

The lead supplied with it, composite, is pathetic!

If you get a CRT out, use the original cables and then use a good quality scart lead, like ps1 to ps2 graphics in terms of sharpness and colour.

Scart doesn't look very good, composite looks even worse.

Strange-Ive tried my ps2 with scart, component and composite and find composite the best by far, have you tried changing the tv settings?

I've tried XD on/off, also drastically changed sharpness etc, but doesn't really have much of an effect.

Take the game Bully for example, on my old CRT it was very colourful and smooth, now it is all washed out and the moving image is very jagged.

Also tried it with SSX3, the back drop looked fine, but the snowboarder was all jagged.

I heard from lots of places that component is the best with LCD's, so I thought that would cure my problemo. Guess not

:lease:

Could you take a pic of a ps2 game in action?
