So when the article says the B is a downgrade, is that a downgrade on the B7 or a downgrade to a C/W8 ?

Fantastic news, that'll make calibration (for those of us with CalMAN) a doddle!

Why is this not done at the factory prior to dispatch?

      Relative to the others.

TBH is really annoying as it seems even if you absolutely do not want a friggin soundbar (because you have an AVR, or your own much better soundbar), you have to have one regardless if you want better picture processing. This is the reason I like this years B7 - no extra unwanted baggage and same processing as the others.

They really need a decent screen with minimal/no sound model.

I will hold judgement on fitting a different processor in the B8 until I see the pricing of it.

@Mark Hodgkinson any chance of asking them if they have any plans to add HDR10+ to existing models, or even the new models? Just curious if they can stomach getting in bed with Samsung ;)

Oh no. Why do they need to a bloody soundbar for the first time in C8, there was never a soundbar added to a C Series model. B8 this year has inferior processing and no soundbar.

Is it going to make calibrating a 2018 77" OLED a doddle for you specifically ray? ;)

Someone said that the C8 comes with a 2.2 soundbar attached "like last year" ? so did US C7 models have a soundbar ?

They also say the B8 will come with one. Maybe it will in some regions and not in others ?Its all a bit confusing at the moment.

Either way, I can see a lot of LG soundbars left in boxes as they won't be needed.

I wish! Maybe a Black Friday bargain, if the 77C8V comes in under £8k by then, and isn't just the dumping ground for W8 panels that don't make the grade.:D

Ah - does that mean they are physically separate sound only units? I thought they had all the HDMI connectors as well.

I'll pay for a proper calibration. To get the most from it you'll need a quality meter and spectro, as well as a pattern generator capable of generating HDR/Dolby Vision et all I imagine.

      I
Don't know, all I can find are these pictures, first is the W8, second the E8. BGR say the E8's soundbar is "integrated at the bottom", but there is no sign of the (rather big) grille the E7 had, just a thicker bezel

      I can't find a picture of a C8 or a B8.

Cost. During production they can make tv's hit a certain requirement, get them off the line, boxed up, in a van and out the door. If they had to calibrate every one, which takes hours, they would be expensive.

And surely the different sources people may/may not use would have an impact on calibration ?

More likely its just a feature they can advertise rather than the practicality of doing it in the factory - out spec-ing the competition is the most important thing

Not worth the upgrade for me. HDMI 2.1 is a must have when I replace my 65E6. Probably when E9 or E0 (2020) is released.

If the C needs a separate connection/sound unit or even a large speaker portion at the front (I wont call the speaker section a soundbar) its a no-buy. Even dafter than dropping 3D and thats saying something especially if no HDR10+. Over to you Sony....

Exactly. The equipment chain gets taken into consideration as well as room lighting, etc.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why HDMI 2.1 is so important to some people. Ok, its going to be needed for 8k, but 8k displays even in 2019 will be massively expensive and there will be little (if any) media available. As it is 4K is hardly prolific is it.

And probably sell you a nice accessory to connect to your PC/TV similar to what the professional calibrators use.
