I don't think they due to the ABL being less aggressive on the 2017 , are you upgrading to 2017 set ?

I was seriously considering it, waiting until the prices hit what I paid for my B6. Then I read some posts on here with panel issues....
I think I've finally nailed the Lightspace LUT creation too, so my B6 looks the best it's ever looked (with a 4913 point cube) so I'm not actually sure now, how much of an 'upgrade' the 2017 models are.

What about you, are you thinking about moving to a 2017 model?

I was untill all the vertical bandy picture got posted , put me off for sure .
Vertical banding is just the worst defect ever and as I had a band free E6 I'll be sitting tight unless the panels get better as the year goes on.
2017 sets Near black improvements look good but when paired with bands I don't see it as an improvement at all .
2017 sets Less agree ABL is great too but I've been using 100 oled 60 contrast for over 2 months now and love it as it limits the ABL also , I'm getting 35% extra brightness on full field whites .

Can't fault my E7 65" so far after 2 months of use but then I'm just a regular Joe user, no idea what half of the stuff you are talking about actually is lol.

I'm not convinced I'm missing much near black detail with my B6 anyway. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing it in the content I watch. The quality of the content seems to be the deciding factor here.
And I've never experienced ABL outside of calibration, so that won't be an improvement for me either with the 2017 models.
I was more interested in the Panasonic and Sony than the LG B7 so we'll just have to see how prices and quality control pan out with all this years OLED models. The B6 and Radiance Pro (and Lightspace) pairing has elevated the B6's PQ performance noticeably as such, the more I watch, the less I'm convinced that the newest models will improve things to such a degree that makes joining the panel lottery again worthwhile.

Two interesting little snippets in there are they that they recommend setting Dynamic Contrast to Low in HDR mode to enable on-the-fly tone-mapping, and that enabling Edge Enhancement doesn't add any sharpening, but is actually a kind of bypass function, so they recommend turning it on.

I wonder if those apply to 2016 models as well?

There is an equivalent 2016 document, but it's much simpler and doesn't mention either of those things.

The 2017 near black performance is more to do with better handling of low bit rate material then detail from what I've read .
As I have always had plasma or oled TVs I am used to ABL and never noticed it , Untill I limited it by using 100 oled light and now it's very noticeable.
On a side by side comparison I think there would be some visible improvements on 2017 over 2016 but as you say with your radiance in play the difference would be minor .
The panel lotto odds are not good this year at all .

Give it a go see if you like it .
It seams to work on the 2016 sets running latest FW when in game mode
Don't know about HDR standard mode .

If any enthusiast calibrators are interested in 3D LUT calibration (Lumagen processors and eeColor boxes, etc.) I'm selling a LightSpace HTL license in the classifieds here.

Here is my C7 calibration of the new Technicolour picture preset .
I don’t use 2 PT WB low as it caused problems on the brightness patterns , 17-18-19 could be seen as one block or 19 darker than 18 .
Using 20 PT WB only for lower ire worked very well
2 PT WB high works ok as long as you subtract and not add as that caused problems on white clipping pattern where the none flashing bars would show a pink tint if plus red was used .

I found that issue with a pink tint with the white flashing bars, I left grayscale adjustments and reduced contrast values a few notches which removed the pink tint .....
