I've had my DC-2 for around 3 months now, and I'm pleased as punch with its performance. However, an MC-1 has come up for sale which could potentially cost me only £300-£400 to upgrade to, depending on the price I get for my DC-2.

The big question is....would this constitute a worthwhile upgrade? Would I notice any difference in sound?

    Any views out there?

    Other equipment used is:

Rotel RMB1075 power amp (used for centre, sides and rears)
Rotel RB1070 power amp (front left and right)
    2 x Servo 15s
    3 x M&K MPS1610s (front 3)
Crappy Missions for sides and rears.

    Cheers
    Matt

I'd say yes just to see the resulting sales thread and your bargaining abilities again.:D Not heard the MC1 but it's supposed to be better than the DC2.

Do you know what dacs are in th MC1? As i recall there were at least two generations? although i may be thinkng of something else.
I would most certainly change (if it is a later model).if you can do it for 300.00 at this end of the market ANY upgrade/improvement for 300.00 has to be considered as a bargain.

YES, most definately! Sonically, the difference between the DC-2 and MC-1 is huge. The jump to MC-8 and MC-12 from the MC-1 is not that huge. In my opinion, probably the best 5.1/7.1 processor for the money. Go for it! :smashin:

    Matt,

I upgraded from DC-1 to MC-1 (and then MC-12). I doubt that the DC-2 was much of an upgrade (sonically) from the DC-1 so I would expect you to be pleased with the upgrade.

From what I remember though, it was 2-channel and music that benefited more than the movies.

I agree with Jimmy that the used MC-1's out there are absolute bargains......

(but remember still no analogue bypass
on the MC-1 which means no SACD/DVDA - not a problem for everyone but it was for me..)

    Have fun
    Gary

This is worthwhile as an upgrade, the DCs are also currently over valued and the MC1s are undervalued so everything is in your favour. You will noice a significant difference.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'd happily take it for the money he's offered it to me for (£1250), but someone else has jumped in and offered him that before I've had a chance to respond. Not sure where I stand, but we'll see...

heh that was a fun one wasn't it?:) I think someone was going to throw the last tenner in to make us quit;):D

Dimmy, you're right I'm never satisfied. I want all the LEDs on my AV rack to be blue rather than yellow;) (hmm maybe I should throw the BFD out?)

    Matt,

sorry to see u didn't manage get the sale on the MC-1.

but just to make u feel better from one who sort of knows!!

the DC-2 has the same dac as the MC-1 24bit, unlike the older DC-1 which has 20bit. and i have too agree not much improvement on movies but some on 2 channel

and thats it apart from a blue front!!

Can't muster the energy to pull my AV rack out and sort through the jumble of cables behind....

Well finally swapped it over, must say it looks sooo much better than the DC-2, love the blue display:)

Weird hearing the DTS fan kick in, although it IS very quiet and unobtrusive (I was listening for it).

Initial impressions? I've not listened enough to any material as of now, although there's an immediate and noticeable improvement in 2 channel stereo. For multi-channel - well there IS a difference there, but like I say I need to listen to more material.

One thing IS for sure though, I love the Lexicon sound:)

Hi-Def on a £25k Onyx CRT projector? LOL all of a sudden my Z1 looks really really crap...

Normal laserdisc looked good on the CRT, Muse looked excellent (LOL @ the pro-logic soundtrack on Jurassic Park, it was like DTS), Knight's Tale in Hi-Def looked unbelievable.

Aside from bringing home an MC-1, I came away thinking my projector is sorely lacking....

Thanks for the heads up Guy;)

I know what you mean regarding projectors, within 3 months of seeing a run of the mill crt my dlp was gone and I stopped looking at £10k digitals and just went the crt route.

James is a great guy, always got time for everyone and he tends to know his stuff in just about every area.

    Enjoy the new toy ;)

I think even your - seemingly endlessly deep - pockets wouldn't go that far Fred - £20K CRT Projector?

Let me assure you, CRT Projectors can get much more expensive than that  ;) :D.
