Can't believe I'm asking opinions on what's left and what's right but I am

I've just bought one of these and when assembling it there was a large chip in one of the arm sections. I emailed the seller asking for a left arm replacement to be sent which they swiftly did but the wrong side has turned up. It's clearly in a package marked "L" for left but fits on the right hand side (as I understand it)

Now I asked for a left arm because when I'm sat in the chair it's where my left arm would rest but when you look at picture of the chair it's on the right side.

So what's the rules on then?:D:)

Agree with you, it should be from the perspective of being sat in the chair.

Clearly left and right should be from the first person perspective i.e. when you're sitting in it, not looking at it.

Can I ask if the company you bought it from are British, or at least English speaking? If it's foreign, maybe they use a different perspective to describe left or right?

The same problem can turn up with vehicle inspections in different countries and at home from time to time and only when a picture sheet is used it becomes apparent that some inspectors look from the front of the vehicle and left is (UK) OS and right is NS and at final inspection it is checked as in sitting in the vehicle.

It is and has been a ball ache for years.

It's a UK based company bought via amazon, 95% positive rating. I think they've just made a simple error, I even sent a photograph of the whole part so they should have know which one to send I've emailed again and asked for the correct one to be sent

Here we go with another of my stories, but, like the rest it is true. 30 odd years ago, I wrote a service manual for a Japanese TV manufacturer. I sent the proof off to Japan and forgot about it. Later, when it was published, also in Japan, I noticed that all my references to Right Hand bracket were correct, but they had changed all the Left Hand references to "blacket". Some logic I suppose.
