I currently have a varilight dimmer switch with 4 gu10's.
Can I swap for LED GU10's?
Yes, but they will have to be ‘dimmable’ - it’ll say on the packaging.
Eg Philips LED Classic 5.5 W GU10 Glass Dimmable Spot Light (Replacement for 50 W Halogen Spot) - Warm White, Pack of 6 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KHILBSE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L2YaAb6ZNGANY
Yes that's the sort of thing, I was worried as I started reading about LED dimmable switches, making me think there is a difference.
There is a difference, depending on your switch.
LED lights need a dimmer that works on the trailing edge of the waveform, not the leading edge.
Check here for compatibility
VARILIGHT Dimmer Switch Compatibility Guide
Or choose a lamp that is compatible with both types, such as the Megaman universal dim range.
Even if you get a trailing edge dimmer, and dimmable LEDs, they might not dim fully. You can also get flickering.
As mentioned above, Varilight make some programmable dimmers, where you can set the dimming range.
Thanks Guys, I wasn't looking at spending too much as i expect to move house in a few months. The megaman and new dimmers are a little expensive.
