I have bought an axim x3 and wish to use as a remote .
i have got pdawin and have loaded a ccf from remote central.
to get used to it before i do my own ccf i am trying to asign
the icons to my sky remote.
But i am stuck at the first hurdle.
i have tried to assign an icon to sky movies(channel 301 )
    so i have gone to

    LEARN
    TAPPED ON THE SKIN BUTTON
TRIED TO TYPE IN 301 ON MY SKY REMOTE

But as soon as i type 3 it seems to assign just"3" to the button
how do i get it "too wait for the 01"

I can see how you assign 1 for 1 but not when you need 2 or 3 different keys on the original remote.

    Any help appreciated.

You need to learn the number keys to 10 different buttons on the axim. i.e. create a keypad on the axim. Now to asssign a button to take you to channel 301 (sky movies) you need to create a button that will do the following:
    keypad 3
    delay 0.1s
    keypad 0
    delay 0.1s
    keypad 1
This is the only way this can be done with any learning remote (it is called a macro).
