Have just acquired a Sharp 15". It has quite a noticable high pitch buzz/hum which varies in volume depending on the Brightness setting (!). Is this "normal" behaviour?

    Thanks
    Dave

I don't have a Sharp but the sound you are hearing sounds like it's power supply related, e.g. a coil or transformer in a switch mode supply with vibrating core.
You should email Sharp unless you can find someone here (or elsewhere) with the same display so that you can compare notes - and perhaps settings.

It could be that the backlight brightness is controlled by modulation, hence with a high brightness setting you won't hear it (always on). This seems to be the case with my Tosh where I can hear a buzzing noise at backlight settings lower than 75%. The noise was something I couldn't live with, so I have my backlight set at 75% and adjusted other settings to get an acceptable picture. Always worth checking with Sharp though

Turns out to be a known fault with a batch of Aquos LC15S1E - Sharp will collect and repair or, as in my case, John Lewis, will simply swap it.
