LCD screen has been replaced - John Lewis

Standard Member
I have a Sony KDL 32W400 purchased from John Lewis in July 2008 - costing £699 at the time.

I contacted them regarding a problem with the screen flickering. An independent specialist collected in on their behalf and I am getting the unit back tomorrow.

Apparently they have replaced the screen. Is this normal? Is it likely to be a genuine Sony part? Surely the screen is the most expensive part - would they not replace it with a new TV instead?
Many thanks
