I have an aging Samsung LCD currently, terrific for gaming and decent enough for general viewing. AWFUL for sports. With me recently upgrading to Sky HD, I need a decent all rounder for gaming and sports.

My budget is £800, I have been eyeing up this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE4...een-Processor/dp/B007JURGRO/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

and the Panny st50, though reading reviews on Image Retention amongst other things is off putting.

Thanks for any replies in advance

Only choice plasma wise at 42" is Panasonic, the ST50 is one of the best sets out there, has some issues but all sets do. IR can be a problem sometimes but mainly you won't see it, I've games on plasma now for 4-5 years and sure I've had IR but its easy enough to get rid of the majority of the time. All I do after a heavy gaming session is run the scrolling bar when I go to bed, these sets have an auto switch off you can set.
As long as your viewing is mixed there shouldn't be a problem.

If you do go LCD its going to be tricky as sets with better motion use processing to achieve it and that adds to the lag.
