Hi Chaps, need some advice. In the process of moving house so new tv is needed lol

Have been looking at at few options but not sure which to go for, have been looking at the following:

    Sony KD55XF900 (Roughly £1200)
    Sony KD55AF8 (Roughly £2000)
    LG OLED55B89LA (Roughly £1500)

This TV will do me for the next 4 or 5 years so just wondering would I be better off pushing the boat out and going for the OLED instead of the LCD? Any other TV suggestions would be great. Main use is watching SKY Q & Netflix etc. Cheers

I’d throw the Samsung Q9FN in the ring.

It’s better than the Sony XF, and offers a great alternative to OLED.

All have been reviewed here so you’ll get a decent insight into all of them.

LG 55C8 as well. Richer Sounds have it at £1,699 on the back of it’s What-Hifi award.

I’m also looking at a Tv in this bracket and have narrowed my choice down to either the Q9 or the C8 hoping for a Black Friday deal one one of them.

Personally I would go with the OLED, those blacks just add so much to the image there really is no comparison.
I have a newish 4k Samsung LCD and it looks great until the lights go down and it's a washed out mess.
Will be getting an OLED as soon as I can afford one.
£1500 for the LG is a bargain

Totally agree with everything you’ve said....

However, there are 2 reasons to go with QLED for me.

    1) Image retention - I have young kids who have a tendency to leave the tv turned on when they are finished with it. Yes this can be mitigated by using auto screen off features but it’s still a worry.
    2) This TV will be wall mounted so I really like the One Connect box, especially with this years almost invisible cable, as well as the zero gap wall mount.

Is either of these enough to sway the decision? I’m undecided as yet, and it may come down to what’s available and at a offer price come Black Friday.

It's a no brainer in my eyes, OLED wins hands down.

Thanks for your replies guys, the more I look into it..I am leaning towards the following 2:

    Samsung Q9FN QLED
    LG C8 OLED Series

What yous think? Are these better that the Sony AF8?

Vast majority of the reviews are in favour of OLEDs over QLEDs despite lower peak brightness. We have had 2 shootouts, one in the UK and one is the US, and both times, OLEDs came on top on every category except Gaming.

Also keep in mind the LG OLEDs support Dolby Vision and there are so many DV contents out there on streaming platforms alongside nearly 100 4K UHD Blu-rays.

Do consider Samsung Q900R 8K QLED or their upcoming 2019 QLEDs if you have enough ££ and patience. As of now, I would recommend an OLED if you are knowledgeable about screen burn and if you are after better and consistent overall picture quality.

OLED for sure if you have the money.

LG B8 is available in some places at 55" for around £1200.

    55" KU6470
Low end so not indicative of higher end models but black levels are something I just can't get over and I've never seen an LCD that does these well at night or in a dark room.

    Please check my signature lol.

I was extremely close to buying Sony ZD9 / Samsung Q9FN and even contemplated getting either the ZF9 or AF9 as a replacement for my first C8 which suffered from banding and brighter right hand side but settled now with my replacement C8.

If you want consistent picture quality then I would recommend an OLED and don't think these OLEDs look dark and dull in bright rooms and needs to be viewed in a bat-cave lol.

Was in Currys yesterday and was very impressed with the LG C8, so think i have settled on getting an OLED and its a toss up between the Sony AF8 or the LG C8. AF8 is £1900 at the minute and the LG C8 is £1700. Hoping they will maybe come down a bit on Black Friday?

Assuming you are talking about the 55" models, the LG C8 is £1,599 and the AF8 is £1,800 here. That said, they are a small business in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland and, as you only state your location as UK, I don't know where you are and if they would ship to you, as the three TVs I have purchased from them have all been personally delivered, unboxed and set up by them. However, call George on 01501 820293 for info. Also, they are part of the Euronics Group so it may well be that there is a Euronics shop near you which may have the same deal on offer.

    Best of luck.

    Martin.

Thanks Martin, I am based over in NI. Yea its the 55inch I am after. There is a Newage Electrical and Currys beside me so I will be buying from one of them two places. It's so hard making the decision..i think I have settled on one then I go and read a review somewhere else and I change my mind again lol

Okay, I just wanted you to be aware that there are betters offers other places. I don't know if there are any Euronics shops in NI but be aware that they do include a five year guarantee. Personally, I have a two year old LG E6 which is a great TV and has never given me any bother at all. It replaced an LG 950V which I gave to my mother-in-law as I wanted to move up to UHD. That set is still working admirably as well with no problems, so my advice from personal experience would be the LG route, especially with their A9 processor and Web-OS which is always praised as being the best system on the market.

Whatever, I wish you the best of luck in making your choice.

Yes mine arrived, RGB have always shown nearly £1500 online you had to ring for that price. I also spoke to Crampton and Moore and they said that there black Friday price on these would be £1299 and could do them for that now, so presume a lot of places will be similar.

KOOL how's the TV are you happy? I ordered a Sony kd49xf900 from TPS over a week ago still waiting for it! I did have the opportunity for the LG b8 myself from RGB direct a few weeks back but got put off by the vertical banding..

Its still in the box :) Its for a new house that I don't get the keys for till the end of the week ! I initially wanted an 55XF9005 with soundbar deal myself which I could get for £1100. I'm no expert so spoke to a few people read the reviews and it seemed the OLED was the way to go only time will tell. It was noticeable how bright the Sony was in comparison in a local store but that's false conditions.

OLED wins in every area, but it’s an unfair comparison as they cost significantly more than LED.
