Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent LCD monitor that can is suitable for gaming (i.e. fast response) and can run at 1600 * 1200 resolution?

    Cheers.

    Nothing at the moment AFAIK.

There's a Dell due out early next year that will apparently manage it but for now you'll have to stick with 1280x1024 and probably on a 17" panel as the 19" ones are still mostly last generation devices.

Which games? Judging by what I've seen, this can make quite a difference.

Of course, you could use two (or three) for a 2560x1024 display :)

Here's the review of that dell http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1918

And kryten is right, its the only monitor at the moment that satisfies your requirements.. and i doubt you'll be able to get hold of one in the uk for a while.

Well, I finally got a Prolite E511 20.1" TFT Monitor from dabs.com for £703.82. You can see it at http://www.dabs.com/uk/productView.htm?quicklinx=30XG

I've got it connected to my Radeon 9800 Pro thru a DVI cable.

It does res up to 1600 x 1200, 16ms response time, and a contrast ration of 400:1

And as best as I can tell, there are no dead pixels!

I'm very happy with this, although for some reason Far Cry is a bit juddery at 1600 x 1200.... :clown:

I haven't tried a DVD in it yet, but when playing Far Cry and Dungeon Siege the screen doesn't show any sign of ghosting. The brightness seems pretty even, and even blacks look reasonably black.

Desktop use is quite frankly superb. Solid, bright, clear colours and its much easier on the eyes than my old 22" CRT. It's actually much easier to use at the highest resolution too because I can place it right in front of the keyboard, unlike with my old CRT which had to be pushed back into a corner - which was further away, and I had to sit at an angle on my desk to see it straight on.

I highly recommend this bit of kit. :smashin:

So, when are you getting another one and the dual DVI graphics card?!

I must admit that since I move to two TFTs and a dual DVI card I _hate_ using systems that only have a single monitor!!

Look Kryten, just stop now. DON'T TEMPT ME!

It's all I can do to stop myself going for a Radeon X800, so I don't need any other temptations to help overload my ability to resist.

    Must...stay...away...from...electronics...websites...oh...go...on...just...to...check...prices...not...to...buy...of...course.... HELP :suicide:
