    Question:

If I was to buy a 17" TFT monitor with DVI in, such as the Samsung SM172W Monitor on the http://www.digiuk.com/samsung/ site, could I use this as a TV?

If it is possible is anybody doing it, and is the quality of the image any good?

I'd plan to use Sky+ as the tuner, running the signal into the iScan Ultra (http://www.siliconimage.com/dvdo/iscanultra.asp) which can output DVI.

The plan would then be to run a DVi signal out of the Ultra into the back of the TFT monitor.

Sound would be driven from the Sky+ Box direct into my AV amp.

Thinking about this for the kiddies you see.... Perhaps it could save me from sweating about onscreen logo's?

    Tim,

Quality will be acceptable. The figure you want to concentrate on with the display is the response time which needs to be under 25ms. Some screens are getting to 16ms, but most are 20-25. This is what stops the burry'ness in fast moving sequences. My 15" CTX screen has 30ms response but is still pretty OK for TV - it's a kitchen TV so not worried about quality that much. By the sound of it you shouldn't be over concerned if it is just for the kids.

There's a couple of threads on LCD monitors as TVs if you hunt around.

Have done some searching and things are a little clearer now.
