I've had my LCD TV for a few days and I noticed earlier that the remote for my amp would not work from the usual range. I had to get quite close to the amp to get it to work. After I turned the TV off however, it worked fine at the normal range.

Is this a common problem, and is there anything I can do about it?

It can be with plasmas definitely, due to the amount of IR the panel throws out (My Panny PW5 is a bugger for interfering) but I didn't think it was an issue for LCDs, I certainly haven't noticed it with my LCD.

I had issues with my TEVION and my Telewest STB, but my Toshiba 42X3030D is fine.

Does your TV have active backlight control?

Try turning it off, I recall some Sharp TV's with this feature were blocking IR signals.

If I remember rightly they had a work-around solution of covering the sensor with stickly tape.

The TV is a Samsung LE40F86. I have the backlight set to 1 out of 10 so it's only just on, but it still interferes with the remotes for my V+ box and amplifier.

I'm just hoping that it will get better when I get a proper stand for the TV which will make it a bit higher up.
