LCD affected?

I turned the image settings to my Blu-Ray player up to the maximum values (like black and white levels, chroma) and for a few days I tought it looked great on my LCD 37". But yesterday, when watching closer I noticed some kind of ghosting on the screen, some kind of image retention. I turned the blu-ray player settings to standard and all these dissapeared, everything got back to normal and the ghosting dissapeared. But now I wonder if that settings could have iremmediably affect in any way my screen....
