Hi all, hoping for some advice, so I've got two price matches from RS:
LC OLED55C8 for £1499.00 or the Sony KD55AF9BU for £2144.

My usage is mainly Sky Q, Netflix and Amazon Prime, I don't and won't be gaming, I don't have sky sports so don't watch the football and at the moment I only own a Blu-ray player (may upgrade to a 4K player later in year).

I've picked these two because of the full fat HDMI ports and the DV, tbh I'm not a massive fan of the Sony tilted stand as it may overhang on my unit and also Sony have disappointed me before with regards to stopping support on a top end TV and I've heard the LG interface is very good.
I'm going to the store tomorrow as they have both on display to make a final decision, anyone went through the same dilemma and what did you go for.

Regardless of which one I bought
Even if we accept that the Sony was better tv (which in a couple of respects I will, motion an sound), it’s just not £650 better.

Given your usage, the 55C8 would be the better choice given the improved DV performance and slicker OS to flick between sources.

Sony hands down, its processing and scaling is so far ahead it’s unreal, and no near black blockyness unlike the LG and on the AF9 the OS is as slick as the LG. Having owned both I can tell you the Sony is streets ahead of the LG where it matters

seeing them on the shop floor will not tell you what tv is better im afraid. They will be on shop mode with over saturated colours etc.

You will also not get an answer here as everyone will tell you a is better than b as everyone is susceptible to different things when it comes to TVs. your best bet is to try and arrange proper demos in a store like RS.

FWIW i personally think the the LG's show a more natural picture over the sony which to my eyes can look over saturated. I do not get any black blockyness unless its really poor content or very low bitrate (iplayer comes to mind)

The sony has better motion and sound. The new android is a lot better that the old which can be unusable but still not as good as LG's.

Having played with and observed both side by side, it’s not hands down at all. Neither tv is greatly better than the other (especially at a £650 delta), and as the shootout proved to my own eyes, the difference is indistinguisable.

The Os of the Sony, though better than before, is still vastly behind the South Korean brands. It crashed thrice on me in store for Christ sake, it’s not acceptable on a tv at this price.
DV performance was and still is underwhelming.
The sound, though better than anything LG are doing, is not a replacement for a soundbar or AVR. Frankly, if you’re just using the speakers on a £2150 tv, you’re doing the picture an injustice.

The only two areas where distinctly the Sony is the better buy is the motion processing and sound output. This is reflected by not one reviewer (not even AVForums) rating it higher than the c8. Rtings, hdtvtest, whathifi, stuff, avsforums, t3, which.
There is no universe where it is worth £650 more.

I'm leaning towards the LG atm purely because Sony and their update's leave a lot to be desired and I'm still not happy they dropped support for my flagship Sony tv within a couple of years of buying it last time. I'll be getting the LG tbh and save myself £650, can't imagine the difference in motion I will see as I don't watch a lot of sports on tv anyway...

Well after spending the last 2 months researching every TV pretty much, I purchased the LG C8 from RS for £1499, little miffed they wouldn't give me the free LG speaker as they said they had price matched but hey ho...

No point me waiting for the 2019 tvs as I wouldn't be buying one till BF2019 anyway and I'm not a gamer so don't really need hdmi 2.1.

Tbh I checked over all the main Oleds in the store including the AF9, B8, FZ802 and the 803, the C8 looked good and it was the DV and four full fat hdmi ports that swayed me...

I'll set up tonight and hopefully I have made the right choice...

Good to hear you’ve done the deed, hope you’re pleased with it. 3 months in and it’s still impressive every time I turn it on.

Don’t be too miffed over the WK7, I’ve got one and it’s ok but nothing to write home about

You can get one for sub £40 on eBay if you’re still desperate.

Well it's built, off swimming with the little one then switch it on tonight, looking forward to seeing some Netflix DV shows tonight.
Anyone recommend a good Netflix series in DV please.

Well i've tweaked the settings as per Rtings, completed all the updates, upgraded Netflix to UHD and just fired up Altered Carbon, blimey its looking good, have to say I'm impressed with the sound from the tv also, Dolby Atmos isn't bad at all through the tv itself...

I have a feeling that C&M may do you the 55C8 for £1450 including the speaker. I messaged them last week and then had a chat on the phone with one of their guys and they offered it to me for that so it may be worth a shout. FWIW I am going to go for a different set and probably with RS but I have heard good things about C&M and the staff I spoke with were very helpful.

Thanks for letting me know. That is a cracking price but I am midlands based so don't mind paying a small premium to be able to accost someone locally if I have any issues so looks like RS or JL for me.

I agree that RS seem to be brilliant nationwide. I purchased an ‘open box’ TV from my local JL 3 weeks ago and am still without a TV or my refund. I have heard some good things about JL but this is the worst experience I have had with a retailer and I will personally never buy an expensive item from them again.

Thanks to @martylaa I got JL to price match that website at £1499 which they checked out and somehow did a jedi mind trick and they included the LG speaker. Took an age to do the transaction but i have the speaker with me (very last one in store) and my C8 tv is getting delivered this Saturday!

Yeah shame I never got the speaker from RS, the sales assistant said I was going to get it and even put it with the TV, however when I came back in and folding the car seats down the manager said he couldn't include it in the deal as they had price matched and given me a 6 year warranty instead of District Electrical's 5 year so I couldn't really complain.

Glad I could help Kish and enjoy it, I am...

Exactly the same as me, a year ago I wouldn’t of bothered with a sound bar but tried one recently and they really do make a big difference, yep I will be looking for a Atmos as well...

Just completed the 5% slide test properly in the dark not sunlight as per yesterday and I’m a little concerned now, three large areas of banding and the right side looks brighter, a lot brighter up close than the photo suggests...

I’m seriously thinking about ringing RS now and raising my concerns as I’ve only had it 5 days...

They won’t even entertain it if it doesn’t affect watching content. Does it show on real tv etc?

    No, it is not necessary.

Given the knowledge that panel uniformity can be an issue with the LG Display panels, some wish to check this by displaying a variety of slides to see what their panel is like.

As I mentioned above, LG nor the retailer will do anything unless it affects your viewing experience of real content.

It’s one of those things that you check hoping you don’t have an issue, because even if you can’t see any difference on normal content, you know it’s always there.
Unless you have an issue watching programs, don’t do it.
