Shame on them. The original film was shot, and played in some cinemas in 70mm. Potential for a superb transfer to HD.

after my initial excitement of this film being in hd i could see certain problems especialy in shots were there was a lot of sky which seemed to have damage or wear.

Well the fact taht the BD will be 1080p should mean it will be better than Sky as is every movie I've seen on BD so far.

Watched a bit of Lawrence, but it didn't look as good as first time round on Sky a few years back from what I can remember. Maybe it's my new TV, Sky and lower bitrates or me getting older!

This comes up a lot; movies on Sky are 1080p. With a half-decent deinterlacer your display will recognise that and treat the source accordingly.

There are many movies on Sky that look just as good as the Blu-ray. I was watching Kung Fu Panda on disc the other night and couldn't see any difference whatsoever.

Always notice a difference, maybe its' my TV.

The 'Ps have always had it just like with 576p compared to 576i back in the component/RGB Scart days!

Could be. With a progressive 25fps source, broadcast via 50i, each pair of interlaced fields are identical, so correctly deinterlaced there should be absolutely no difference between 1080i and 1080p.
