Launch Day console - 3 red lights

    Just now got the 3 red lights, launch day console bought from Gameplay, never took out the warranty.

    What can I do?

    Take it back & get a replacement or refund from them. They sold you defective goods.

    I have sent MS an email because the lines close 5pm on Sunday (This happened at 2 mins past!), my manufactured date is 20-10-2005, I have the reference number from the email.

    Am I right that all launch consoles were being supported free of charge till the end of this year?

    Unplugged everything and booted up, thought it was ok as the red lights didnt appear, then just browsing the menus in the dashboard it froze up again, I am sure the console was on an expiry timer or something :suicide:

    Hi mine was a launch console , also from gameplay. 3 red lights, on 19th December, collected 20th December.

    Phoned microsoft customer support ( its hard work they are in India and cant understand what you or they are saying ,so calls do go on a bit):eek:

    But:smashin: there should be no problem getting them to fix it for free. They will by email (make sure they have your email address right) send you a carrier return lable ,to arrange for collection of your console and should take about 10 days to return they said?

    GT electronics are a good option, but better if Microsoft do it for free.

    Microsoft state that only 5-7% consoles fail, but there seems to be an awful lot of them on this forum . I think that some cheap production processes have let us all down:thumbsdow

    Just because your console is going strong, does not mean that its days arnt numbered. mine lasted 12 months and a week. I did quite well compaired to others:thumbsup:

    Thanks crown,

    I emailed them so I could prove I contacted them before the year was out, is there any official word from Microsoft on supporting launch day repairs then?

    One further thing out of interest is it seems a lot have gone down in the last 6 weeks and as with mine adding the HD drive might have tipped the 360 over the edge:eek:

    All was fine until then, yes others seem to have failed on their own, but, I really do think it had a part to play in the failure of mine.

    When I spoke to them they said straight away with out any prompting that they are repairing all launch consoles that have failed for free, I guess just the once for free though.

    Funnily enough I also have had the HD Drive for a few weeks, it seemed that the 360 got a bit noisier after that as well!

    Don't worry, I was in exactly the same boat on I think the 19th Dec. Rang MS, got an email sent with a UPS label, packed it up myself, UPS picked it up same day & tried to deliver it back on the 29th but I was out!. It's the 2nd now in 2007 but that's OK. Still from start to finish, it's been pretty smooth, & yeah mine was a launch machine as well. No charge for any of this story. Just hope it's all OK.

    Just how it seemed too me. My first signs of any freezing of the screen came with the HD drive.
    It is just that, a drive, and the xbox has to do all the hard work with regards to picture processing, so seems to be a likely cause.

    Do they ask for the serial number/manufactured date?, did they mention because this was the first batch released it would be ok?

    They asked for the serial number, and then seemed to know production date etc from that. I think its just the case that the have had so many fail on 3 red lights they are fixing them all regardless of when they were purchased, Including us who are just over the 12 months....

    But, I think if it fails again there would be a charge the next time:thumbsdow

    Me too been playing resident evil 4 again on the wii.
    Sure it wont break!!
    In fact I have owned every console since the NES, and I have never had one break until this 360, thats advancment for you :eek:
    Cant beat an N64 no moving parts!!!

    I rang up a week or so ago and they want to charge €123.38 to repair my launch console, seems to depend on who you speak with there.

    My 360 seems to work for a bit then freeze and 3 red lights with an error code of 0102, then work fine for days only to freeze again.

    It's a joke charging to fix the 360!!!! ...like you guys I never had a single problem with my previous consoles ( don’t get me wrong I love the 360). M$ knows that there is a problem with some of the 360’s!!! If I pay 250£+++ I expect the item to last for more than 12 month…:mad:

    I understand your grievance but MS have no responsibility to their hardware once it's shipped, just as any hardware manufacturer. I posted this in another thread, but it's just as vaild here:

    To be honest if they wanted me to pay them to REPAIR the console I would refuse, if they would sent me out a newly manufactured one at a reasonable cost to myself I would do that, I aint sure if the newer ones are quieter mind, only really noticable during watching hd dvds when its a quiet moment.

    I can apperciate M$'s position but if my 'fixed' 360 goes wrong again it could shake my confidence in MS as a gaming force & may return me to the arms of Sony & the PS3. Xbox live is just so damm good though! :rolleyes:

    From my point of view I would never feel confident if mine was repaired, I would be paranoid about when is it going to happen again, I have had tv's, vcr's, dvd's fixed but it always returns and I have to buy a new model.

    If they sent me back mine repaired and it broke again I wouldnt get another.

    Not looking for an argument just stating my opinion, genuinly gutted, was going to go on R6: Vegas tonight, never played it.

    Cut my losses, sell my 22 games to put towards the very expensive and unproven PS3.

    Sorry my friend, it's not personal. I've had a few NYE drinks, and I would appreciate it if you would see me as a person and not a moderator - it does not define my posts here. I'm just trying to have a bit of fun on the last day of the year, apologies if it's been taken the wrong way. :smashin:

    EDIT: I would too be gutted to lose my 360 at this time of year especially, I speak from a point of view that has thankfully not had to go through this process. I genuinely hope it all works out for you.
