does anyone know if this place has a website.

Just saw an advert in a DVD Review magazine and wondered if they had a website.

Tey are offering loads of cool Laserdiscs like Indiana Jones Trilogy and recent ones like the Blair Witch Project, the Matrix, Star Trek Insurrection (not so cool, but pretty recent) and also Martix 2 disc specail DVD?

I used to use them when i collected lasers. They now call themselves The Enterprises DVD.

They were involved in a recent court case with FACT after their premises were raided and all their R1 stock siezed.I used to get next day delivery before that, but they now take up to 14days to deliver. They lost the case by the way.

I have only ordered once from them in the last year, and it took so long to get my discs i decided not to use them again. They are certainly not the cheapest around for DVD,but since i dont buy Lasers anymore i cant comment on the price or delivery time where they are concerned.

I have used Laser Enterprises services for nearly two years now!

I order all of my R1 DVD's through them and have never had any issues.

They may not be the cheapest but they are 100% reliable. As for delay's, I usually get mine early! If there are delay's it's normally due to changes in release dates.

Also regarding the court case. I lived in the area of where they are based and also had a shop (essex) and I feel the UK DVD r1 users owe a great debt to them.

They were dumped on from a great height by another large high st retailer and tried to win a case that would have if successful led the way to r1 disks being available over the counter (How many other web based companies would do that?).

People invovled in this case have lost large amounts of money, some their livelyhoods and some also their health (one person suffering a heart attack) and all for something that was summed-up by an employee for Laser in conversation once "it's easier to buy drug's than a r1 disc in the UK" (nice one Blair!!!)

Before anyone ask's I'm in no way linked to this apart from they supply me with disks and I don't like seeing people shafted (unless they deserve it!) and by the way, what does copyright protection (FACT) have to do with r1's supply in the UK??????

Anyway, the only thing I would say negetive about them is that they only supply r2 and r1, not r4.....

and, as far as I know they don't have a website.

Basically, FACT are the strong (fascist?) arm of the UK film industry. These people are basically a quango that does pretty much what they like.
Power to Laser Enterprises for their stand, misguided though it was..for another horror story, see the story of the girl (trainee lawyer) who tried to defend her boyfriend who was busted by customs for importing discs. It is to be found on The Melon Farmers homepage. I'm sorry, I am not technically minded enough to include the link here. The story is well worth reading and another reminder of how fragile our freedoms in this country really are..

Even though I'm currently enjoying the delights of DVD , I still actively enjoy laserdiscs - the last two films I watched - Highlander and Face Off , both sonically superb and looking totally beautiful prompted me to start looking for discs but it seems that there is only a secondhand market - I've been aware for some years of LD's decline but I'd kill to get my hands on a recent release {fat chance!). does anyone out there know of any suppliers in the uk?

only these folks as far as i am aware and they are maybe not fully operational.

Otherwise, buy from the US or ebay, bear in mind most laserdisc sellers were or are collectors so the discs'll be in pretty good nick

have never ordered a dvd over the phone yet, prefer to do it online in my own slow time, although in saying that, i did buy my amp over the phone when i could have ordered online, purely because i couldn't be bothered waiting for the computer to start up

    Mr Bond

Play 247 seem a reasonable site have had no real problems with them though there catalogue of discs is not as big as some sites , Prices seem to be pretty good even compared to US sites.

    Ordering DVDs over the phone?!

Wow, I honestly can't remember the last time I SPOKE to somebody to order something over the phone.

In fact, I usually eliminate potential suppliers if they DON'T have online ordering.

Doesn't happen often these days though.

I am proud, at this point, to say I have never ordered on line and never shall. The telephone is a far more convenient way of sifting good suppliers from bad. Talking to supliers is a great way of finding out what is available and also for special requests if your interests lie outside the mainstream.

As for not ordering if they don't offer on line ordering. I am confused. Surely it would be madness to order online if there was no telephone contact number or address, not the other way around?

Maybe its 'cos I am paranoid.

I prefer buying DVDs on the net, when ordering via phone u r always asked spell your name & address. And repeat your card number a hundred times. Sometimes the person on the phone does not know anything about movies.

I've done some research for you all and they have just launched a web site here www.dvdenterprises.co.uk although they are expensive for most titles (especially DTS @ £24.99)

Good news if you are an LD collector because they are having an LD clear out at the mo!

    Go get those shiny 12"ers.

    Desade,

We're opposites then. I am very proud to say that I never order over the phone anymore!

I use the Internet to sift the good suppliers from the bad. You quickly get a feel for companies by reading Usenet and these web boards.

If you don't ever order online, how do you order from foreign lands? Do you avoid them or call them up at international phone rates, at sometimes inconvenient times of the day? Just curious as this is what I like to avoid by ordering online. I do all my shopping around 11 o'clock at night. [IMG]

And I use email for the special requests, thus allowing the recipient to deal with it when best suits them. Of course, if they don't reply/act on the email, then they soon get scrubbed from my recommended suppliers list.

It's true I don't order from somebody that doesn't offer online ordering services. I like to be able to track my order online. I like to be able to specify my address and CC number *CORRECTLY* without having to repeat it out over the phone and *hope* they heard me right. At the point of ordering *I* am in control as far as I can be.

And since I have already vetted the supplier via other means I have yet to have a single problem with any of the retailers I use. I tend to restrict my price comparisons amongst just a few, that over time I have grown to trust.

I've been ordering online for about 7 years now.

Been to DVDEnterprises and ordered some laserdiscs.
Most are £5 going up to £8-£10 each.
The irony is that the ones I've ordered have Dolby Digital. So they must be NTSC. Considering their history it's surely a gamble!
Never mind. I'm happy and have a few bargains too.
