    Hi

I have a 2.7m wide manual pulldown screen mounted in place. Its not perfectly flat, there are ripples across a large part of it.

There are a few pics here:

    http://www.moley.org.uk/screen/

Is this bad ripple or is this to be expected with a manual pulldown screen?

(its actually a 4:3 so will go down a fair bit further than shown in the picture)

Is there anything I can do to tension it?

    Cheers
    Mamo.

Doesn't look great but I've seen far worse

Not really. Just let it extended for as long as possible in a warm room, central heating cranked up. It sometimes helps while the screen "settles in".

I once reported this problem to Da-Lite.

They basically said that cheap screens made from a thin material will eventually ripple.

If you want a screen that won't, you have to spend more money. More expensive screens will be made from thicker material which will be less likely to ripple. If you want an absolutly ripple-free surface you need a tab-tensioned screen but they aren't cheap.

Even if a screen is tab-tensioned it doesn't mean it will not have ripples.

I had two dodgy Owl Grand Cinema screens which both had ripples...the first was awfull.

I now have a Vutec which has a semi-rigid screen material and it's as flat as anything.

    Cheers, Lee

    Thanks for the replies.

The screen is new, I have the option to send it back. They won't send a replacement as they can't guarantee it'll be any better.
Should I expect anything better than this for £260 for a 2.7m wide screen?

Looks like £460 for a Draper one, which is quite an increase...

    Cheers again
