Laptop to TV

Hi all,

I used to conenct my laptop to my old CRT via S-video and a phono lead.

Now I have a new sony KDL40W5710.

I have connected my laptop with a HDMI to HDMI as I have that output on my laptop. But I have no sound. So I put my phono lead in just like I used to and that doesnt work either.

Looked on the TV but cant find anything that will make the sound work, neither on my PC.

What do I have to do?

Thanks in advance

Check the laptop sound drivers, there is uaully a way to tell it to use digital sound out over HDMI.

If you can spot anything there check the manual and if all else fails tell us which make/model it is.

If you can't find a way to get the audio via HDMI then try the following:

On my plasma I have a setting under audio setup to tell HDMI to get the audio via an analogue audio input. As my TiVo etc is connected via a DVI out video processor I need to send audio separate and so have a phono lead for TV audio from TiVo, but video is to HDMI1 input.
I'm sure you will have something similar on your TV and you just need to tell it to combine the HDMI & audio inputs.

Mark.
