Laptop to TV wire streaming- How could I do?

Hi,
I have got Sony 40w5500 LCD TV and Sky wireless netgrear router and Toshoba Laptop L300. As my laptop doesn't have DLNA, i wont be able to do streaming directly (wireless) to see the photo/video from my laptop to TV.

I read somewhere that streaming is possible via router as well so i am wondering if I could do streaming set-up by using ethernet cable between all the 3 devices i.e. connect laptop with sky wireless router by ethernet cable and then another ethernet cable from router to TV (as sony model has ethernet cable connection)? If yes then how it would work?

You should be able to connect your tv to the router via an ethernet cable. You will need a server running on your pc to upload the media to the tv. Something like Twonky Media might do.
