laptop to Toshiba tv

Hi!

I have an Ergo Ensis laptop, and Toshiba Regza 37" LCD TV. I understand that the best way to connect them would be with a VGA to HDMI cable, which will also need me to have separate audio cables. Do the vga to hdmi cables have an integral converter, or do I need to buy a vga to hdmi converter?

HDMI is a digital only connection and VGA is analogue only. therefore you can't connect from one to the other without expensive hardware conversion.

I take it the laptop has a VGA output but no DVI or HDMI and the TV doesn't have a VGA input. If this is all true then there is no easy way to connect the 2 together.
If the laptop has a DVI output then you can use a DVI to HDMI lead as they both carry the same video signal - but it is unlikely to be able to carry audio via DVI (a few desktop graphics cards could do it, but not sure if any laptops could) so you would still need a separate lead for audio.

Mark.
