I have a new Dell Studio 1737 with vista + SP1.

This evening I downloaded Ad-Aware- Aniversary Edition.

After succesful installation it did an automatic restart.

There were a couple of other files running at the same time.

It has gone into the logging off mode and is now stuck there with the disc lamp flashing from time to time.

After some 20 min I switched off the power and restatred it again.

Went throught the initial start up but then srtaight to the Logging Off mode again.

It has now been like this for an hour.

What the hell has happened and what can I do.
I am not an IT/computer expert!

Try starting your PC in safe mode. Report back if you can stay in windows that way.

If you're not sure how to do this, look here for some help:-

Getting into Windows Safe Mode

I managed to get into safe mode by holding the power on/off button for about 5 to 10 secs and then powered on again.

It came up in safe mode and I selected Start as Normal and it has booted up as normal?

Is that the end of the matter or is there something that has to be done now?

If you can restart your PC successfully any time, in normal mode, you're fine. Do a virus scan. Back up any data that you might need. And create a restore point.
