    Guys,

Have done some reading tonight, and believe I understand that you cannot use a laptop IR port as a home theatre remote due to conflicting standards (irda vs cir).

I have a laptop in my lounge to control my xbox, as well as 5 remotes (pj, amp, dvd, xbox, sky).

Is there a piece of hardware available to convert a laptop into a cir device so I can get rid of my 5 remotes?

    Thanks,

    Xav

Have a look at www.usbuirt.com - they sell a USB IR device which can send and receive IR signals and commands.

I'm currently developing my own system with one controlled via a touchscreen and software I'm writing.

    John,

Thanks for the pointer - looks interesting.

May decide to go for one unless something comes along that fits in the PCMCIA slot (that would be much neater as no need for extra cables / boxes lying around etc).
