Laptop not booting up.

Guy in work brought his laptop in said it wouldn't let him into the laptop. I got into the BIOS to see this.
I removed the HDD and tried it in my PC but it wasn't recognised and I couldn't assign a drive letter or initialise it.
The laptops over 6 years old do you think the HDD is definitely kaput ?

Hmm changed the boot to ide1 instead of 0 and drive fired up no idea why it would change by itself. I'm now checking the drive with WD diagnostics.
