What is your budget? £700 ish

What size laptop do you want?
Bigger the better, Im guessing 17" to 19" for my father


Do you have resolution requirements?
1080 preferable

Do you prefer a matte or glossy (reflective) screen?
No preference

What will you be using the laptop for?
Web Browsing
File management (on 4 x 2TB hard Drives)
Photograph handling and editing from high end DSLR camera
Hi Res video playing only
Google Music upload / download
Interfacing with Nexus 7 & Nexus 4


How long does the battery need to last?
No preferance, laptop will be used in the house, in the living room.

Does it need to be portable?
At home, on lap.

Do you require Blu-Ray?
Would be nice, but not essential. My father currently does not own a blu ray disc

Do you require HDMI output?
Yes

Do you have a preferred brand?
My father will feel more comfortable investing in a big name brand.

Would you be happy with a refurbished laptop?No

Any other details you feel necessary...
This is going to be a one time purchase on my fathers retirement money. He wants a good laptop, with a big screen, that is well built.

Hi Chris,

Given your father is heavily into photography you are definitely going to need a laptop with, ofcourse, a capable screen, a lot of storage space and a good amount of memory.

For the photographically inclined I would always point them in the direction of the MacBook Pro's as that is their preferred weapon of choice. However they cost significantly more than the £700 you have specified.

However fear not, I've done a search for a more wallet friendly Windows enabled offering that may suffice and I may have found you just the ticket. :) This Acer laptop is highly regarded and could be ideal for your father's needs. The full data sheet for it is here. I hope this helps. :)
