laptop advice please

Prominent Member

My elderly father, aged 76 is in the market for a new laptop. Unfortunately he has a rather severe back problem so he is now looking for something lightweight as he does take it abroad when he is travelling. He finds his current 10" net book too small so I suspect a c. 13"-15" with a decent resolution screen would be right? He enjoys listening to classical music on his laptop so a decent sound card would be desirable. He has good external speakers but some decent built in ones would be great.

He is not into gaming at all, typical uses include internet browsing, accessing bank accounts, the odd excel spreadsheet, listening to music, checking E-mail and watching the odd film.

His budget is around the £500 mark, he is prepared to spend more if required, but would rather spend less if possible!

I am skeptical about online reviews, so I would appreciate your advice.
