On the US DVD release of Land of the Dead an unrated edition is being released with what looks like 40 minutes of extra film.

Does anyone know what extra has been added because in the Jonathan Ross review of the cinema release on Film 2005 he did say that this version has a lot of gore but is a bit short, so that would imply to me that the unrated version does not just have violent parts added in but also a lot of story.

I am a massive George A. Romero fan but I have not seen the film yet as it is not out until tomorrow here in the UK, so does anyone that has seen the film think it would be improved by the extra footage or are they just milking the unrated DVD thing for sales.

R1 Land of the Dead (Fullscreen) (Rated)
    97 Minutes

R1 Land of the Dead (Widescreen) (Unrated)
    137 minutes (Extra 40 minutes)

    Monkeyboy :hiya:

I was thinking the same, but Land of the Dead is not out untill next month. Where can you get this movie before that. I hve tried all the usual suspects ie play, amazon etc... and they are all quoting next month and region 1.

    http://www.playusa.com/playusa.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=728189

I would rather have a region 2 a month early.

PlayUSA and Amazon dont usually ship before the release date where as companies like Axel Music and Movietyme will start shipping orders as soon as they receive stock but saying that no where has stock of Land of the Dead yet but I wouldnt be suprised if it becomes available within the next 2 weeks.

I caught this last night at the cinema and was disappointed , another 40 minutes though may give it the depth of plot it so needed. Maybe I just expected too much out of this film and waiting 20 years to get it, felt there could have been more.
However my mate who isn't a romero fan thought it was excellent

I thought I'd read that the unrated version was only another 6 minutes longer than the theatrical release.

I really do hope that it is another 40 minutes tho.

I doubt very much that its 40 minutes longer. More like 1hr 37mins rather than 137mins.

Hmm looks like the 137mins as reported by a number of pre-order sites is indeed wrong :(

    Theatrical release : 93mins
    Unrated (director's cut) : 97mins

I'm still going to wait for the dvd though.

Has anyone actually seen this yet? There seems to be mixed reviews on imdb (although I'm trying to avoid reading too much before seeing it). I'm hoping the people slating it are the general populous of idiots that are just after something mindless and don't understand what Romero is trying to do.

I too was a bit dissapointed. I guess I was just expecting more. Seemed a touch short to me. Didn't get enough time to feel for any of the characters except for Big Daddy. I have to agree, I slightly preferred the DOTD2004. Hopefully that'll change when I get to see the unrated print.

I'm one of those minority fans though, who actually prefer Day to Dawn.

Yes - I enjoyed the film, but also came out of the theatre thinking that it was too short. The film seemed a bit rushed and in need of fleshing out. I particularly feel that the zombies invasion of the city was not long enough.
And there were not enough zombies either considering that most of the worlds 6 billion population were supposed to be the walking dead.

Still looking forward to the DVD though.

ps. Some of the zombies seemed in remarkably good shape as well. All that long walk to the city and nothing fell off / legs worked fine!!

I saw Land on Monday and I must say that from what I had read about it I was expecting it to be crap but I really enjoyed it and the gore was so much that I can not believe that it was only a 15

Over all I came out think it was very good and the sorry moves along at a good pace until the last half an hour where is feels rushed, I think if there had been a extra 30 mins in the second half to flesh it out it would have been even better.

As we know that the unrated one does not contact more gore what will they be able to add in a few minutes that you would notice :lease:

What makes you think that the unrated version does not contain any more gore?

As far as I know that is the only reason George agreed to make the film for Universal in the first place. They give him the money to make it on the condition that he makes a "soft" MPAA friendly version for theatrical release and then he can go nuts on an unrated DVD. The extra minutes are ALL gore, I think.

Going by the unrated trailer that hit before the release, I know there is more gore than in the film I saw. There was plenty more red stuff in that trailer.
