I had a similar experience when trying to buy a VT30, the staff just couldn't be bothered so lost a sale.

The way I see it is there are that many retailers that if staff can't be bothered I'll go elsewhere.

To be fair retailers need to realise that they need us more than we need them as we have so much choice especially online.

A lot of Sony Centres used to be the same, staff couldn't be bothered and would act as if they were working in a high end shop

No wonder they weren't answering their phone last week:laugh:. I did pop in last year, whilst shopping the Lakeside shopping centre, to have a look. However, my first ever experiance was a year before last year, wasn't good. The sale guy was pushy.

Went to Tottenham court Rd but only saw 42' ST60 tucked away upstairs without any label:D

I saw the P55VT50 at that store just before XMas. Salesman was uninformed and pushy. I ended up buying from John Lewis Bluewater after seeing the P65VT50 there.

Trouble is nearest panty retailer I can find is in Essex now ( I'm in kent) and really wanted the 5 year warranty and might even have looked at their 0% finance deals....can't seem to find anyone nearer.

HiSpek in StAlbans are good and there's a Superfi in Camden, spoke to the manager at the gadget show, nice bloke.

Has shut down :-(

Wondered why they hadn't been answering their phone !

Was only in there a few weeks ago looking at the vt50.....left as the bloke was a bit grumpy...now I know why.

Damn , closest is now Colchester 40 miles away.

This isn't the branch I work for - but my boss is looking to buy all their display stock  all the boxed stock went back to Panasonic UK.

I can't even find the Tottenham Court Road branch on their store locator now.

Don't know if they're 'official' Pana dealer but the're shop has big Panasonic banners written on them. They mostly stock Pana TVs and the last time I went early this week, they only had 42" ST60 on display, hidden upstairs but they also have 50" in stock as well for £1099.

think that shop in tottenham court road are official Panasonic dealers as they did offer the 5 year guarantee on last years sets. also the shop opposite called ask also sell Panasonic tv's,i bought my Vt30 and gt50 from there.they do the 5 year guarantee but from experience they are hard work when getting replacements. but don't know what stock they got in

What I think he's trying to say is that it's not a "Panasonic Store" If they're using the proper Panasonic point of sale for 5-year warranty etc then they are an official Panasonic dealer. However, if Sony, Samsung, LG, Phillips or whoever made the owner a deal he couldn't refuse then he could quickly change and sell different brands. Would be a bit harder for a Panasonic Store to change brands lol :rotfl:

Kent weeks woefully under represented with good Av dealers as far as I can tell......a gap in the market for someone more enterprising than me ;-)

Its a hopeless proposition to deal in TV's ( particularly Pana ) as your main product as they are very very low margin products and to run a shop especially out of a hi end location that costs many thousands per week just to stand still -- well it aint going to happen , the products are all over the internet at prices that are cheaper than buying direct from Jap names unless you buy millions of £ stock . Specialist shops that still exist are plagued by geeks who just want to look and find problems or issues then buy them from Amazon ! This forum is full of tales of "I did not like this feature or that feature " so I took it back -- you cant do that with other types of product .

Retail in this type of way is finished just like pubs ! The only way to sell TV's is as a sideline in supermarkets where no one knows anything so you cant go back and waste there time and service issues are handled by 3rd parties . Or as a sideline in a otherwise very high proffit store and again contract your "free" 5 year guarantee out to 3rd parties .

I would speculate that within a short time there will be no specialist retailers in this area and Manufactures will supply retail customers directly .

Sorry for the long post.

Damn, hopefully nothing will go wrong with my set as I'll have to go direct to Panasonic UK now...

The manager guy there was alright for me but his sales staff were variable.
