I have a 42" Viera set up to do progressive. But i find that nearly all the
films i rent or buy are not suitable to watch in progressive mode, i.e. no aspect switching. Is there some way to stretch the movie when watching using progressive to get rid of the nasty black borders top and bottom.

I paid 45 squid for my component leads and i want to use the dam things atleast once a month would be nice.

    Cheers big ears.

You'll find a lot of films will display black bars at the top and the bottom due to the aspect ratio they wre filmed in, it's nothing to do with using progressive scan.

There are a wide range of possible ratios of which 16:9 (the same as your screen) is only one so it's entirely possible to get bars top and bottom.

I'm not familiar with the Viera but my DVD player has a zoom facility on it so you can rid of the bars without changing the aspect ratio which would just strech the picture horizontally or vertically.
