    Hi -

I have a friend with a recent vintage Sony TV, not sure which model. When he plays my R1 disks on his Sony DVD player, the colours are washed out, almost non existent.

Is there a setting on the TV or player he should change? Does anyone know the answer to this?

    Many thanks

    Paul

I'm guessing his TV does not support NTSC signals. Perhaps his DVD player can be configured to convert the signal to PAL.

Or use a fully wiired SCART connection and set both DVD and TV to RGB.

    Hi Paul,,

I had this problem when playing back R1's on an old Sony Widescreen (about 4 years ago now). I found this happened when using the RGB Scart. Switching to a pure S-Video input (usually located under the front flap of the set), not only the colours, but the picture was massively improved. Try this, it SHOULD work:smashin:

    Hi Paul,

Another possibility is that your friends dvd player is outputting an S-video signal to the tv via its' scart, but many Sony tv's come from the factory with the scarts ability to display NTSC through scart disabled, resulting in a distorted picture.

One way to put this to the test is to get a normal s-video cable, and run it from the dvd player to the tv's front s-video input.
If the picture is ok using this method, then you know the problem lies with the scart sockets.

There are options in the service menu that allow you to enable NTSC through scart.
