Having just found these threads I entered the service menu and found that my set has been running for around 52K hours, despite me receiving a ' new' set at the end of June 2004 (and me being on two weeks holiday during this period!!!!!).. Also I have suffrered a couple of incidents of the set switching off as the other posts. Do I refer this to Sony or to RGB Direct where the set was purchased from ?

Any advice will be greatfully received

Hi, sorry to hear you are having probs with your FQ86.
I spoke to Sony Uk about this as I've had 2 faulty KV32FQ86's.
1st set had over 60,000 hours usage and it intermittently switched itself on and off.
The second set again switches itself off and on and also has a pink tint on the top left hand corner of the screen.
The person who I sopke to at Sony assured me that these sets do work and that there must be a batch of them which are faulty.
He said go back to the retailer.
The first set was sent back to Sony by my retailer and the second one is going back also.
Why aren't manufacturers more helpful ?
It seems that they are not willing to do a lot and tell you to just to go back to the retailer ?
Hope your tv gets replaced !

that is if you want a replacement.(Unless fault find within 7 Days)
All Sony can offer is a repair and point you to an authorised service agent.

oops don't know what happened there !
If fault is found within 7 days, Sony do offer a replcement via the retailer.
After that its usually a repair.
    Hope this helps !
