Kung Pow - I liked it!

Watched "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist" tonight. Very funny - highlights are the now infamous cow scene together with the opening scene (which is an absolute corker)!!!! :D :D

Probably won't appeal to anyone who hates martial arts movies since the movie is based on a 70s Hong Kong flick but they have very cleverly mixed in new footage (new scenes, plus new characters moving around in the background, plus the lead guy is not the original lead guy) and dubbed the existing movie.

There's a whole heap of extras on the disk, including the option to hear the original Chinese soundtrack and also to hear what the "new" American actors are actually saying (because they dubbed themselves too even though they were originally speaking English anyway - just so the lip movements would look different :D) - the latter is almost as amusing as the movie proper :D

There are a good few deleted scenes on here as well, and I found an easter egg on page 1 of these but it's easy enough to find - it's on the right somewhere ;) Selecting the "egg" leads you to an hilarious scene involving some interestingly synched body movements - I'll say no more but it made me laugh :D

There are also trailers, promos, and a "making of" documentary, plus some detailed features on the making of the cow scene.

Worth £11.99 IMO (@ Play, R1) - I shall be watching it again with a few mates in the near future ;)

BTW, was shocked that the director also wrote/directed Patch Adams, a great movie, but hardly the same thing at all!

Meow weow quack!

Funniest movie I've seen to date, me and my brothers constantly quote this movie and laugh our asses off. Personally I could have done without the cow scene, didn't think it was funny and it didn't really fit in.

Wow, I put out a thread about this a good while ago and most ppl didn't like it. A friend of mine told me about it, he still keeps going 'Master Betty' in a squeaky vioce.

After so many ppl saying it was poor I left it, but now I am interested, esp seeing as I am a big martial arts fan. Would it be comparible to Shaolin Soccer in terms of humour? I know the storylines are way apart.

Wow,
One of the kids in my class wrote a movie review of this film the other day. I thought he was making it up!
He talked about a man called Betty fighting with a cow.

I must see this.
Where is a cheap place to buy it?

I've not seen Shaolin Soccer so can't tell you that one, sorry!

If you look at the end of my review, it tells you ;) I found it about 50p to £1 cheaper elsewhere but delivery was longer so it wasn't worth it. I ordered mine from Play on Saturday. It arrived Monday

Absolutely Fantastic.
I've just spent 16 straight hours marking books.
I then went into work after 2 hours sleep and taught 35, eleven year olds all day. After a ten minute break I was verbally abused by 23 sets of parents during parents evening. I got home at 9:30, ripped open my package from Play and laughed for the next hour and a half!

Bloody fantastic tonic to a bad couple of days.

Good call Squirrel God and George in my class who wrote the review.

Now, a couple of questions:

1. Is the sequel bit a joke or will this really be available?
2. Is the thumb scene (extras) very very short or is it my player. It only lasted a couple of seconds!
3. How many different ways of watching it are there? It seems like there are about 4 audio tracks as well as a full complement of languages!

Hahahaha - still laughing out loud.

I read in a interview with Steve Oedekerk (The director and now my official god) that he intends to make a trilogy. So there should be at least two more of the same coming down the pipeline sometime in the future. I'm crossing my thumbs that it does and so should you.

As I recall:

- regular soundtrack
- original Chinese soundtrack (what the Chinese actors were actually saying in the original movie)
- unedited soundtrack (what the new actors were actually saying in the movie before they dubbed themselves)

Can't say I have listened to the 2nd and 3rd versions all the way through, but watched a few bits here and there :D

You guys might know this already....

But if you want to see more of the same stuff. Then check out an old classic; Kentucky Fried movie It has a 20 minute Enter The Dragon parody. Which might be where they got the idea for this film from) Im not sure if its on DVD yet

Long live Guano Apes

I think youve got this film all wrong. Its not even the same idea as Shaolin Soccer. Shaolin is a comedic funny ha ha kung fu type film. Kung Pow is a **** take, but made in a funny way. Am I explaining this right.

Shaolin Soccer = Serious kung fu film with comedy element.
Kung Pow = **** Take National Lampoons or Police Squad comedy with kung fu theme.

No one said it was.

Nothing like those movies!

It's more comparable to a movie version of the bit on "Whose Line is it Anyway" where they used to improv around a movie scene by dubbing over the voices ;) :p

Someone asked with regards to the comparison between Shaolin Soccer and Kung Pow Humor wise, not for a smart ass like yourself to tell me about two films I have seen :p

Betty? Isn't that a woman's name?
:D :p :D

God this is a good film.

I'm currently trying to talk the missus into very briefly flashing her top half every time she sees me.

It is not going well!

Actually, you started it by laughing and mocking those who, in your opinion, had gotten the film all wrong based on a remark that no one had made but merely a question that was asked which was misinterpreted by yourself or was interpreted correctly by yourself but your reply was misinterpreted by others in the way that you phrased it ;)

Right, we'll never settle this with words - lets fight it out.

Squirrel God - you be the cow.
I'll be Betty.
Kevb can be Charlie Sheen. ( a cameo role is called for)
And Ripco can be the woman who flashes a lot and sounds like miss piggy.

If you could all assume a rediculous position and make some high pitched noises, we can begin.

Gentlemen - to the death!:D
