    Hi all,

    I am back... :smashin:

Done a few changes in my system, particularly replaced the TAG with a Krell, great piece of kit, and I see a few creeping by, particularly after that special promotion...

By the way, how long does it take before I can use an avatar...

    Welcome back!

I too joined the Krell Showcase club, taking advantage of the offer. I think the Krell is an amazing piece of equipment.

Hope you enjoy the Showcase...all you need now is a few KMA's or FPB's to complete things!

If you purchased the Showcase processor and amplifier (5, 6 or 7 channel), you would get £2000 trade-in for your old processor. The processor you hand in could be anyone, so long as it works ie £50 second hand job! So basically you get £2000 discount.
If you have a good processor you could sell that seperately and use the funds towards this.

I am not sure if this offer is still around though. You could always try ringing around some of the dealers, my one I use is Acoustic Arts in Watford (01923 245 250).

Just to add, I am extremely pleased with the Krell combo!
    :D

So how much does the Showcase costs after the 2000 'dollar' discount.

It is GBP2000. The processor and amp combo starts at £9500 (for 5 channel amp) - 6 and 7 channel amps are £500 extra for each channel.
With the discount, that makes it £7500.
The reason behind the offer (apparently), was to take advanatge of the problems other manufactures were having (such as Tag).

    Marck,

Are you using digital equalization...

I had TAG with TMREQ before, so just transferred the settings, aproximately, as the Krell doesn´t have test tones, and can only use thirds of octave...

Saturday I will try to do it properly, with ETF, I cannot live with room ressonances after trying EQ, and my room is golden ratio...

Also, I didn´t use the promo, as I only bought the processor, about the same price as TAG´s dual processor...

I love the small/stylish remote, just the necessary keys, instead of huge and cluttered as usual... :smashin:

I am not using the digital equalisation (as such) - the processor was set-up by my dealer - he spent hours setting the parameters....

I was not planning on changing my amp - but it was worth me selling my old amp to get the new one.

What are your impressions of the processor?

Hmm, I received details of the offer way before the whole Tag debacle thing happened. My view is that the Showcase processor is probably not that great value for money on it's own and Krell are attempting to get people to buy both the Showcase processor and Showcase amp rather than a Krell amp and a processor from a different manufacturer.

I must admit that this is largely conjecture on my part.

    Regards,

    Jules.

I think people knew about Tag before it was made public. It was not only TAG - Mark Levinson, Lexicon and others have been and still are struggling (from what I have heard)....

    Warrj,

I think your conjecture is probably wrong...

In the recent Lisbon Audioshow, the dealer used a Showcase processor with top Krell CX powers and Wilson Watt/Puppies, they would use their, more than twice the price, Standard if it was significantelly better...

Also several other stands used it, for instance with Sonus Faber Cremona and Martin-Logan speakers, would they if it wasn´t good...

    Marck,

My impressions, comparing with TAG dual processor, both in my system, FMJ DV27, Sonus Faber EAII, Bryston 4B ST, 2 REL Strata II + good cables, including PCs...

The Krell sounds a lot more dynamic, lively, better at low levels, it has balanced outputs, unusable display, great remote...

The TAG is very polite, better with classical music, (have to use EQ to tame forwardness of Krell with some CDs), and TMREQ is better than Krell´s EQ to correct rooms...

Both are dead quiet, have no treble grain at all, and play stereo and surround very well...

I much prefer the Krell with non classical music...

I agree with what you say - the Krell is very dynamic - and with my Martin Logan's the soundstage is superb - the midrange and clarity is awesome. I used to have an MC-1 - the Krell, I feel, is in a completely different league!

The only gripe I have is the display - you cant see it! Mind you, it is always a good excuse to turn up the volume a little too much!

Yes, but it wasn´t playing, it is a one transformer, 7 channel power, probably for those that buy the processor with Rotel powers... ;)

By the way, the TAG system, with F1 speakers was sounding fantastic, the midrange was to die for, the highs where muffled by a dead room, and bass was boomy, they didn´t use TMREQ... :suicide:

By the way, I found that using a better power cord improved bass extension and dynamics, as it did with the TAG...

I tried Eupen and Van Den Hul Mainstream...

Kimber powercords on all of my stuff here, and a very clear improvement in sound quality over the standard leads, esp.with the KMA's.

I didn´t notice any improvement replacing the leads of my Brystons, only on player and processor...

Interesting, but in many cases the results of power cord trials are very amp dependent, and certainly the initial current draw of things like pure Class A amps can be very high,as can the current peaks during the charging cycles of the supply capacitors....in the respect your Brystons are much more power efficient than my Krells.

    Lowrider,

Quick question: Do you use the DACs in the Krell or the Arcam for music? BTW have you compared the two?

No particular reason for the question - just curious.

    Regards,

    Jules.

I guess Bryston power supplies are built somehow different from the majority, as they don´t respond to power tweaks, as most owners say in the foruns, I can tell you that they keep on pllaying for a while after I switch them off...

I use the Krell´s, I did a quick compare, but, as I use bass equalization and DPLII for CDs, there isn´t much point in doing two extra conversions...

Also, they sound great, I even read about this guy that used them with a Marck Levinson CDP...

One more point, I replaced my Siltech digital cable with a cheap Apogee Wide-Eye, the sound is great, I think it handles jitter very well... :smashin:

    Interesting choice Lowrider.
Not many Krell Showcase owners on here, so that's always good to have another manufacturers unit represented.

What's the upgrade potential of these machines?

As you were an Ex. TAG owner, i'm sure this was something you thought about.

Any good DSP modes on the Showcase?
