1000 Quick update: Recently acquired an 8' electric screen from another forum member ( ) & I'm going to mask it down to 16/9 (it's a 4/3 at the mo). Absolutely lovely screen, hangs beautifully flat & the motor action ...............nice Still using the HS10 (approx 290 hrs on the clock now). Still the occassional "false start", but no-where near as bad as it once was. It's always fired on the second try, so I'm not particularly worried. I DO think it's lost a serious amount of light output though. The screen is different etc.., but I'm not "wowed" by the brightness & CR as I used to be. Before anyone asks - I'm not just "getting over the honeymoon period". Switching between Cinema black on/off doesn't result in ANY increased light output. The fans do speed up, but the screen doesn't change one iota. Nada, no flicker, nothing. So it looks like I need a bulb replacement - already Still produces a fantastic picture via HCPC over DVI in 1:1, & now having seen 2 CRTs in the UK (thanks Messiah & S) I'm of the opinion that apart from black level, the HS10 ain't far behind. The 2nd CRT I viewed was just awesome (a Barco 12xx - can't remember the exact model) with a sound system to match! Without doubt the most impressive sound I've ever heard. Not a hint of distortion at ANY level. Wicked. My own sound system? Nucleus 6.1 with MPS150 sub (adding a 2nd woofer soon) driven by a lovely new Denon 3803. I haven't had much chance to "tweak" anything yet. Still not 100% back to normality after extended travel throughout the UK. Added to this, some little (or maybe big) scumbags broke into our little inoccuous garden shed the other night & made off with some test equipmemt. PC running yesterday evening (it's never off) when a strange burning smell wafted gently through the room - then the PC mysteriously shut down. Investigation revealed a precision coalition strike on the PSU & 2x WD 80gb HDDs (yes - 2 of the buggers, my raid). One of the drives had been whining for the last several weeks & a replacement was to hand, but both expired together - strange? I can only assume that they'd become so close during their last 4 months together (well they did share everything ) that one couldn't bare to go on without the other. May they rest in peace. My beloved PSU, modded, quietened etc.. decided to go with them. Both drives are now completely dead - no spin up of the platters, nothing - just a hum. I assume they seized & put the PSU under such a resistive load that it finally gave out. So all night was spent reinstalling etc... still lost loads of stuff though. Had backed up, but not everything. Long post - hey, it's my 1000th Enjoyed the crack with Sean G, TimH, Calibos, Comer (the now infamous ) & all the other "regulars" & always welcome "newbies". I hope some of my posts have been helpful & know some haven't, but as Vinnie would say: "It's been emotional".
