Much effort has been made to hide Kong from the public gaze, but this two page merchandising flyer from Weta Collectibles / Dark Horse seems to have slipped out, giving us a look at the great ape and a few of hi adversaries.

These items look truly beautiful. Just look at that chess board, and that's without the pieces!!! I need it!!! The bookends look quite tasty too.

You're right that chess set is lush - I bet it'll cost an arm & a leg though! No idea of pricing unfortunately :(

Btw does this merchandise relate to the upcoming Peter Jackson Kong film?

'Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World' - is that the official name of the movie?

Yup. In fact it was the title of the 1933 original before an eleventh hour change to "King Kong".

Me too. In fact I'm looking forward more to this DVD release than I am to Jackson's remake.

Yep, that chess set looks sensational! I want one... not that I have anywhere to put it - Chess sets are the most impractical things to own!

Same here, does anybody now if it will include the scenes originally cut back in 1933 though i.e in particular the spider scene.

the official story was that that footage was destroyed back in the 30's when it was cut out of the film, but the last I'd heard was that it'd been unnearthed somewhere like the Philipines from one of the first reels that got sent out on theatrical release uncut. Don't know for sure though, can't remember where I read it
It'd be nice to have it on there, the photo's are pretty cool, and the audio was still in one piece.

You read it one here about 9 months ago when I posted the info. :)

Still no confirmation as to whether this will be on the disc or not. Realistically I think if it had been found there'd have been a big ballyhoo about it. Still we can hope...

I seem to recall that story stating it was found but like pauley says its fingers crossed time and lets hope it appears on the disc.

One of the statuettes in the Weta Collectibles pages seems to indicate something nasty in the pit in Jackson's version! :smashin:

This image was posted to Aint it Cool news for a short while, now it states:

REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF TOPPS CARDS

It is supposed to be the first image of Kong's face released, but it got out a bit early from Topps, who have won the licence rights to produce trading cards based upon the film.

I like the tooth and scars.

    Regards

    Mark

Tentative release date for R2 "King Kong SE" is 21st Nov according to DVD Times.

I also noticed they have "Kong: King of Atlantis" down for a 24th Oct release - anyone know what this one is?

Yep the Chess Set looks cool. I liked the concept of Jungle on one side and New York on the other. BTW what era is the film set?

Ah, right. Not one for me then.

Hope there's some announcement for Son of Kong & Mighty Joe Young soon. I know they're not in the same league as Kong, but I'd really like them both on DVD.

I thought Warner's may have released them in a box set along with Kong - a kind of Ape/Willis O'Brien trilogy.

the_pauley...Thanks for the link, didn't realise it was out in Japan. I must say though that the picture looks pretty poor. In fact I'd say that my old BBC 2 VHS recording from way back in the 80's looks at least as good as that, maybe better!

Warner have actually announced that Mighty Joe Young & Son of Kong will be released sometime later this year (I should have clarified in my previous post that it was a release date announcement I'm anxiously awaiting).
It was rumoured that Son of Kong may be included as an extra in the Kong set, as it's only 70 mins long, but it doesn't seem that's happening now.

The one good thing about Warner's releasing these two is that, even if they haven't undergone the same elaborate clean up that we're promised Kong has been given, it's very likely that some work will have been done on them or at least the very best prints available will be used - judging by the treatment of other 'classic' releases from their vaults in the past 12 months or so.

    Personally I can't wait.

    Heads up!

Ch4 3.35 this afternoon...T4 Presents: The Return of the King.

"Anthony Crank presents a T4 Special looking at the work of Peter Jackson and his upcoming version of the classic film epic King Kong that combines brilliant storytelling with amazing special effects. Featuring an exclusive interview with Jackson in his native New Zealand."

Video/DVD recorders at the ready methinks. Hopefully we'll get some clips from the movie as the (2min 30sec)teaser trailer goes online tomorrow - you can see a 'teaser' of the teaser(!) over at AICN now. Only about 10 seconds of footage but there's glimpses Naomi Watts tied up for sacrifice; Adrien Brody & Jack Black being chased through the jungles on Skull Island by a Brontosaur (I think) and a couple of (partial) shots of the big hairy guy himself, the best being what looks like the beginning of the classic T-Rex/Kong fight - wide shot of overgrown landscape, waterfalls in the far distance, then said T-Rex in the background and a very small Naomi in the mid-ground. Suddenly two huge ape arms crash down onto the earth in the foreground with a thunder! Cut to mid/close up of Naomi nervously looking back over her shoulder, her eyes turning upwards.

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, but these few seconds have me drooling with antici......................pation! :D

Penny has (suddenly) dropped with me that they're reverting to calling this King Kong, rather than Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World.

I watched the programme on Ch4 Sunday.... ol' Pete don't look well, he's lost about 90% of his bodyweight by the looks of things. He sounded pretty frail too
Yes, can't deny he needed to lose a few pounds, but it seems a bit extreme especially for the short time it's taken him to do it.
