    Hi Folks,

I admit that is only very vaguely DVD related, but I could do with some more help, if at all possible.

I love films, and I love watching DVD's. Now, I am soon planning to purchase a young kitten - of the fluffy, cute, animal variety. Obviously, said kitten, is unlikely to have a name, and apart from my ideas of naming it "Kit-Kat" or "Pooch", I thought maybe naming him or her after a film character, star or crew-member, might be fun.

Basically, do you lot have any reasonable ideas, please? Nothing too wacky, (Mixamatosis, for example); rude (naming it "****, The Cat", et al) or stupid, (anything relating to Star Trek, et al), if you please.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

    Hi Again,

Okay, so I may be a non-alcoholic-intaker, but the name of "Heineken" might be fun.

Or what about any of these:

Tweety; Spawn; Spike (as in Spike The Vampire, from the "Buffy" TV series); Rygel (from "Farscape"); or Aeryn (also from "Farscape")?

"Buffy" the Vampire Cat. Or the obvious: Garfield (if color matches, size can be "added")

    Get two kittens !

Much more fun and entertaining than just one, and you can have much more fun with the names,

everything from Morcambe and Wise to Buffy and Angel along with Boddy and Doyle and Dempsey and Makepeace

Just as long as you do not get two rabbits and do the bloody obvious and annoying with there names

    Evening All,

Many Thanks for your interesting replies.

Ted - I know that the novels and scripts refer to Ellen Ripley's cat as "Jones", but she tends to refer to it as "Jonesy" (as well as "you little sh*thead"! :D )

After much thought and consideration, I have to say that so far, none of the names appeal to me, quite as much as I thought they would. I never knew that naming a kitten would be so hard.

Duncan - as much as I would love to, I simply don't have the time / space / money to devote to two kittens. With just the one, I can give it all the love and time it genuinely deserves, and it will be looked after to the best of my intentions. With two, it wouldn't work out as well, and I might end up favouring one over the other, which wouldn't be fair. Sorry, to all current cat owners, if that offends them.

Hopefully, I will be getting a kitten tomorrow - Friday 13th - so maybe I should call it "Jason" or "Mrs Vorhees"?! :D

Seriously though, I think that the name of "Heineken" somehow sounds fun, and is probably the most un-feline name I could give a cat. So unless I (or anyone else) comes up with a better name, "Heineken" it will be.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

    Hey Pooch

Think of your favourite films or TV series, and then see if you can find an attribute to apply from that

I have a Samoyed dog called "Orin" after the pendant in Never Ending Story (well, it was 12 years ago I got him !), a cat called "Maddie" after Maddie in Twin Peaks, and another cat called "Kira" after, you guessed it, Kira from Deep Space nine.

My Eldest boy (7) is called "Kyle" after *either* Kyle from "V" (remember that classic sci-fi series) or Kyle (Reece) from Terminator, and youngest (3), "Liam" after Liam Neeson as Schindlers List really moved me at the time...

    Sad, but true.

I think names should have personal meaning and be thought provoking.

Also, with a cat, you have to remember those evenings when they are off up the garden doing cat-things and you have just got their food in the dish and you have to stand there at the back door calling them. You don't want to sound like a complete gibbon to your neighbours!!! :D

Alternatives to Heineken are other beer brands:

    Tuborg
    Bitburger
    Diebels
    Carlsberg
    Tiger
    Anchor
    Paulaner

Some German influence in there. :D

Okay, okay, I keep quiet now ...

Nothin really to do with cat names...

I have a dog (West highland White Terrier) named "The Moog" taken from Willow the wisp

    Cool name I thought...

Cos its a dog with a leg on each corner :D

PS When I owned two Kittens they decided one day to use my floorstanders as scratching posts (just a word of warning  )

    Evening / Morning,

Squid - you mean Schrodinger, after the scientist, and the cat in "Sliders" (the Sci-Fi TV show) don't you?!

Everyone else - thanks for all the suggestions. Got kitten today. 7 week old black and white longhair. Have named it "Heineken", despite the suggestions on this site. (I guess the first ideas, are always the favourite ones!)

As much as she is great fun, she "poos" everywhere, and refuses to use the kitty litter tray, even if I bring it to her, instead of the opposite. Plus, she likes scratching one corner of my bed, and my bean bag, despite having a large scratching post bought for her. Talk about patience being a virtue, as well as a crap card game! :D

Will see what the pet store say tomorrow, and also give her some more time to settle in to her new home. It may simply be down to stress of moving homes.

Admittedly, she does quite enjoy "Farscape" on DVD, which makes watching them nice and pleasant. Now, if I can just get her scratching and toiletry habits sorted, then I'll be a very happy bunny! (She's an indoor kitten, which is exactly what I wanted, as I live in a flat, near a busy main road!)

I had a cat and called him Muppet.

You can imagine the problems standing at the door shouting muppet to get his attention, especially if some one is walking past and i'm shouting "Come on Muppet"

    :D :D :D

    Squid,

Thanks for the good-luck-wishes. So far, "Heineken" hasn't done any damage to my home cinema set-up, but she seems to enjoy looking and investigating the Scart lead that connects my Sky Digibox to my TV. Quite why, I'll never know!

She's getting a little better at litter-training, but I think that she is pooing places, to mark them as her territory.

the interest it has with your scarts may be the smell . copper has a very distinct smell .

it may be that it is just somthing that it has never smelt befor and hence the interst. after all they do just about everything through there nose

i am sure that has time gos on you will fing some nasty smelly things of your own around the house . places you would never even have thought it could get it's rear end . until you put your hand in there :D :D

just hope it never decides that your speakers make a much better scratching post than the one you got for it :( :(

again all the best . give it a pat from me ;)

Keep an eye on her with those leads, especially the mains & speaker cables (both high current), curious kittens have been known to chew through them with disastrous consequences....

Cant believe I am giving cat advice on a home cinema forum If the cat is still peeing all over the place get some cat nip powder and sprinkle it in the litter tray and on the scratching post. That should cure it!

I want some M&K speakers (home cinema bit ;) ) so its not OT!
