Will it play transport streams though i.e. .ts files? If so it'll be definitely worthy of consideration...

    Cheers

I'm a complete noob on the new hd players, i know they aren't "real" high defenition players, but they (try to) upconvert dvd's to high definition right?

And it's got the format (wmv9 files and mpeg4) that hight definition is going to use or...?

Are these "high def" players really good...what i mean to say is the content almost as good as high definition stuff? Is the only problem holding this new format back the size of dvd's?

    Thanks for the answers!

Yes, it´s a real HD player, off course not like those planned for 2006 (BLUE-RAY or HD-DVD), but it will play back WMV-HD discs at 720p via HDMI or HD-component to your HD screen, and at a price most people can handle.!!

So it's better than a progressive scan dvd player? I've not seen a single player yet in the shops...i'm really interested!

Yes, if you´ve got a WMV-HD player like those comming out this summer from KISS, BUFFALO, ZENSONIC and others, and play a WMV-HD disc which have real 720 or 1080P you´ll be able to enjoy real HD, off course only if you´ve got a proper HD-screen that can handle the resolution.!!!

Thanks highdef, because it also support component, and divx hd material it looks very good, the only problem is the unsure future with high def, i think everybody is a bit scared off with all rumours going around to go ahead and buy these things. There aren't too much movies out in wmv-hd either isn't it?

the chip that is used in the new kiss can play TS streams, infact TS mpeg2 streams should require less processor power then HD-WM9 encoded files.

its all down to if kiss implement it in their firmware, then you can simply split a HDTV movie down to 2 Dual Layer Discs

I'd be wary of looking to play WMV-HD DVDs on the Kiss until it's actually known. The Linkplayer 2 plays WM9 stuff but still hasn't be able to let WMV-HD disks play due to DRM issues (and licencing I guess) and the fact it needs to be able to sort the WMA Pro issues.

I remember (but I can't track the source anymore) Kiss saying that DRM on disk would be OK.
From the pictures posted it has 5.1 analog outputs, so I guess it will internally decode WMA Pro.

Yes it has HDMI output and USB2.0 input from which you can control a loopsupplied 2,5" Harddisc (max 500 mA).
I ordered mine 14 days ago, and according to the shop, it should arrive around 29/4 at a price of DKR 3.495,- (Danish), which in £ will say something like 300 or so....maximum.

Reports from the CEBIT 2005 in HANNOVER march 10-16, tells that it played any WMV-HD disc they threw into it.!!!

Interview with KISS from CEBIT 2005 show in Hannover.:

    Right click/save as (28,9 MB) http://download.cdfreaks.com/download/29

    from this link.:

    http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/190/4

And here, you can see why they didn´t release the 600 series one year ago.:

Q: Why is the DP-6xx series not released yet?

A: As some of your questions show we have released some unfinished products on the market earlier and will avoid that. Now we focus on getting the product finished before releasing it, we did also redesign the chassis, which took some time as well. But the drive is finally ready for a middle of May release.

Anyone got a definitive answer as to whether this can play 1080i WMVHD clips or is it limited to 720p? Same for transport streams which I presume it can play?

    Cheers,

So no support for 1080i then... that's a bit disappointing as a lot of hidef stuff seems to be 1080i format. I knew this product sounded too good to be true!

Andy, exactly the same chip is used in the AVEL Linkplayer from IO DATA, and the info from them, seems a bit confusing, take a look here.:

    http://www.iodata.com/products/products.php?cat=HNP&sc=AVEL&pId=AVLP2/DVDLA&ts=2&tsc=15

And again the ZENSONIC Z500 based on the EM8620L chip.:

    http://www.z500series.com/

So i guess, we will have to wait and see. By the way 720p is superior to 1080i, if used to films and sports, but something else if used for stillpictures.!!!

Good link to 720p contra 1080i.:

    http://www.ebu.ch/trev_301-editorial.html

But anyway, 720p is way better than ordinary DVDs 480/576 lines.!!!!!

Ok, well it looks like it won't support 1080p. That means for example it wouldn't be able to play the T2 WMVHD dvd. I'm not certain but I reckon the majority of commercial WMVHD releases are 1080i(p). Someone by all means correct me if I'm wrong

    Cheers

There have been reports at avs that the I-O Data can play WMVHD content at 1080, so I don't see why the Kiss wouldn't be able to as well.
