I emailed Kiss about this player the other week. They still have not finalised the spec and could not tell me when it will be released though. I saw the machine at the cebit this year and wanted to order one straight away.
You are right though Ringer it´s a great piece of kit, best feature imo is the capability of recording in Divx (mpeg 4) from the telly onto a cdr or dvd +/-.
Only thing that could possibly make it even better would be the inclusion of a HDD. I suggested that to them and they said they were looking into it.
    Can´t wait:smashin:

I am very hopeful about this product.

Am I right in thinking that it outputs pal prog too? Component outpus? If it would record to DVD plus as well as minus it would be killer.

The concept of recording onto cd-r/rw in DivX is genius - very cheap media.

They told me at the cebit that it would do pal prog not sure about component conections. Also it will record on all dvd recordable formats except ram.
If I get any more updates I will post them for you:)

Where did you hear this from? The press release I got from KISS said that it will have component input/output and will record to DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD-RW and CD-R only.

Got it from the mouth of a guy on the stand at the cebit but he said then nothing was certain, just passing on what I know.
Guess we all just have to wait and see.
Forgot to mention that if you have a sky+ box you can record a film with the 5.1 track intact as the 550 wiil have digital inputs for this

Will it fit on a disc though? I'm assuming divx will but not mpeg2.

It will fit on a dvdr using mpeg 2 or divx. Will probably have to use multiple cdr discs when recording in mpeg2.

    This sounds very promising.

I recently bought a Kiss Coolview monitor to use in a bedroom. The display quality is only average but the design of the unit is fabulous.

Just a shame that Kiss stuff seems only to be available from mail order computer suppliers - be nice if they could sign a distribution deal with Richer Sounds or another chain.
