its out in may using the new Sigma 620 chipset.

surely this will mean we can play The Two Towers etc?

now all we need is dual layered disks:p

Well its starting to look promising.....

    http://www.buy.com/retail/electronics/product.asp?sku=90136230&loc=111&sp=1

Not bad at $299 USD & shipping in 1-2 weeks.

Wonder when we'll start seeing them in the UK.

I also wondered what the import duty would be if I ordered one of these from the US and had it delivered to the UK. Bit worried about this as I think the warranty maybe void also..

mmm, wonder if I should wait for this one instead of getting an SDI modded dvd player. Or maybe this will be SDI moddable, anyone know?

    Cheers,
    Andy.

even more interesting about this player is it uses the SIGMA 620 chipset which is capable of decoding 720p and 1080i HDTV Mpeg2 Streams, so picture it in a few months time when dual Layer dvdr's are available or even the kiss608 player with internal harddrive or like the kiss 500 being able to stream from a PC hardrive via network cable.

    Im starting to cream.

What so it will also play transport stream files (.ts)? If true I definitely want one of these!

I have opened a case with Scan for them to email me when this dvd player comes in stock and i will post a note on here when it does.

I just wondered if its worth doing this with any other suppliers in the UK ?

I see perhaps a multibuy coming on ???

Perhaps if we all register our intention to purchase one on here then maybe we could get a deal with one of the UK suppliers....

Will post soon when its released (I am guessing 2-3 weeks = late June).

    Thanks

Kiss are back to saying it will be Sept before these players are out :(

Also..has anyone seen a picture of the back panel, as the specs I've seen don't mention DVI?

Yep very true (See attached email).

I wondered if there are going to be any more high resolution DVD players released that will use the same Sigma chip that this Kiss DP600 will use ?

Just take one of these development kits...

    Sigma 8620 board

Add a box and a few support pieces of hardware...some Linux code and we're away!

How hard can it be ? :D

ok so I am now wondering if there are *ANY* UK available high def DVD players available that will be able to play the High Def Microsoft DVDs out there ?

I dont really want to wait until sept before i get a DVD player (I can see myself getting one of those cheap 30 quid models from ASDA to make do for now - Currently using a PS2 which is v dodgy with DVD-Rs).

    Thanks

Mark, that's what I'm using now a real cheap 39quid DVD player from ASDA. Normally I wouldn't entertain anything so cheap but because I'm waiting for a HD DVD like the Kiss600, I decided the elcheapo one (with progressive scan for the PJ) that I have now will do for the time being. Roll on Sept. if that's when the 600 will be available...

DP-600 has taken a whacking from the ugly stick!

And even with a rubbish exchange rate of 1.8 (you can get better than that) it's £166 (plus shipping, plus tax and duty).

It does look very "american". There is no accounting for taste. ;)

This company is renowned for issuing unrealistic launch dates. Although the products seem decent & well specced who knows when, if ever, they will materialise?
