Has anyone seen one of these players back to back with the Pioneer 868, using the HDMI output and 720p/1080i. Preferably viewing on a Pioneer 434.
Which player had the best PQ, or was there nothing in it?

Best bet is AVSforums at the moment as nobody seems to have posted a review up on here (yet). I think several members have ordered this model though.

There seems to be a bit of a mixed reaction in the states, mostly they are unhappy by the need to have to squeeze the video (manually) for 4:3 viewing...

Hopefully the forum favourites will be able to post up their findings as soon as they hit these shores!

Thanks Mr.Wilby. Will check AVSForums and post links here if I find anything useful.
Will be interesting to see if the cheaper 2910 (£600) has as good PQ as the 3910 (£900). If so I will prob get that, as dont need much in the way of bells & whistles, just gotta have that HDMI 720p/1080i

I will be selling my Pioneer DV868avi as soon as the ordered 3910 arrives.
The Pio was a disappointment- issues with PAL output through DVI, harsh sound especially in stereo, no dvd resume, unusable dvd explorer, cheap remote and too small lcd. Also the component output image quality could be better.

    Thanks for the info Barend.
No DVD resume? sheesh. My old pioneer 717 (3 years old?) didnt have that either - you'd think they'd have put that in by now. The 717 had a 'last memo' button which you could press before pressing stop, and then come back to the film and resume from there. Pretty pointless.
The dvd explorer/menu navigation did look like a bit of a muddle when I saw the 868 demoed. eg. to change hdmi output between 720p/1080i you had to go through about 3 levels of menu. Whereas on the Denon remote there is a single 'output' toggle button to do this.
Let us know when you get the 3910 - very interested to know how the picture quality stands up to the 868. I am using a pioneer 434 screen, and the 868 with 720p looked pretty darn good on that. Almost 'Walk-into-the-picture' type clarity and detail, so not sure how that can be topped.

You must have old firmware cos my 868 has DVD resume which even works if the player is switched off and back on (as long as the disc is not removed). Get your firmware updated. It may fix other issues also :smashin:

It should be able to resume after the disc has been removed!
It keeps track of its contents, doesn't it?
So why can't it go to some bookmark when you reload it?
    Just downright stupid.
As a matter of fact, none of the newer player has the feature...strange.

Surely that would mean it would need loads of memory to retain the details for hundreds or thousands of discs. I have 700+ DVDs. Are you saying it should remember every one when removed in case of re-insertion. Have to say that's not a feature that concerns me at all but recognise everyone has different requirements.

Actually, can't say I've ever had a player that could do that.

No, but since it retains disc info for 10 dvd's or so I can't see why it doesn't have this feature.
Had an old Pioneer that did it, it kep track of 8 dvd's and then overwrote the memory on a first in first out basis.
It's darned useful, you don't have to search through the whole disc to find where you left off the night before...

OK. Have to say it does sound useful. Why does the 868 save the disc info for 10 dvds? Not used mine much yet so unsure of this feature. Oops! Sorry to go off topic

Can't blame you, you can make lists of a differing playing order and THAT is memorized!
But it's so user unfriendly, you have to plough thru several menu levels.
Also I never grasped how it was supposed to work...maybe I'm too stupid...

Asked in Superfi (Sheffield) today when they will be getting any and they are expecting 3910 end of next month, but no date for 2910 yet :(
