I will be purchasing the KHT 2005 and Yamaha RX-V620RDS in the next few weeks but have a question regarding speaker position before I order the required cable length and stand.

The missus has said no to running cables up the wall nor using the white trunkings available in DIY so I am left with placing one of the rear speakers (on stand) between the wall and the LHS of the sofa (less than arms length away from the listener). My concern is that this is too close, am I right ?. I supposed I can reduce the rear speaker volume but will that affect the surround sound experience since it's only the left rear speaker that is close to the listener (The right rear speaker will be 2m away).

    Thanks in advance.

If you don´t point them directly to you, maybe 45 degrees, and adjust the volume, should be ok...

i would position them....in the bin! have you actually listened to them?!!! i considered them for the bedroom, but they are c**P!!!

Message from moderator - dts_boy have YOU actually listened to them? If so then how about something a bit more constructive? What are the reasons behind your conclusion? what did you get instead and why?
Otherwise your post is pretty pointless.

i've got the denon 3801 amp and kht 2005, i think they sound great if you set them up right.

    1 set the speaker size(small)

2 use a sound meter (75 dB each speaker)

3 sub(crossover frequency about 100hz,vol half way then adjust
    the vol from the amp)

Wow dts boy - strong stuff!

you must have a jolly good reference system cos my Denon 3802 driving 2005's ain't bad at all - playing CD's it compares favourably with my Arcam/Naim/Linn hifi, certainly the price differentail is much bigger than that of absolute ability to play music.

    Cheers

M&K's K Series speakers are ' the lady of the house ' friendly.

As they are satellites, they are less than 5" wide, 6" deep, and 13" tall. The perfect solution for space consumption and quality etc.
I guess they are more expensive than most but, after several years of upgrades it was time to 'push the boat out' and still be happy with the purchase a year or so afterwards, and not thinking 'what if '

I think we all spend a little more than we should at times!!!
    Bliss !!!

What units of the M&K 's have you got. I auditioned the Kefs this week and thought they were OK.......but then went on to listen to the K series and was very impressed. OK they cost more but they seem to be just the job.

I heard the tripoles as rears, great for HC and music.

For the fronts I liked the size of the K5's but much much prefered the fuller sound of the K7's so I think I will have to save a little extra for 3 of those ;)

How long have you had yours. I did feel that they were a bit on the bright side but hope that they would settle down a bit with running in.

i have the m&k k7 sereis as well with a denon avc a1se. they were actually an alternative to the 750 select (THX package) but i wanted summa a bit more musical as well. i have an uprated sub as i didn't think much of the k9 and i am very happy. as far as the kefs, they sound as if they have a blanket over them, i just couldn't bear to listen, the energy take 5.2's are a good altenitve or for a bit more the definitve technology pakage at £949.95!;)

    Alan ,

    I have 3 K 7's across the front and 2 K 4's for surround duties and unlike dts_boy i have the K 9 sub.

When i auditioned them it was in a large dem room and i listened to the K9 along side the much larger 1250 sub also from M&K. The 1250 integrated faultlessly with massive attack and control, the K9 was lacking a bit but , the dem room was large with a wooden laminated floor. In my own surroundings , not a problem, it,s very tight and fast, which is more important to me than sheer depth. And yes they do need a fair bit of running in.

If you can stretch your budget then do it , you wont be dissappointed
I note dts_boy is also in the same league !!!

For a list fo M&K dealers in the UK you should contact their distributor Gecko. Their email can be found on the M&K website at www.mksound.com .

I work for an M&K dealer in High Wycombe, Bucks.

dts_boy: What sub did you choose in the end?
