Hi, Just got these KEFs mostly for stereo music. After a few days of comparison listening with my old Jamos I found them sounding too warm, they seem lack clarity and transparency especially in midrange like vocals and such. The bass is also weaker, those 2 passive woofers don't seem to help. Is this overly warm sound should be expected from KEF Q series, or may be I got a bad pair ?
They do like a fair bit of power and should respond accordingly as with their size they have to shift a fair bit of air. For the same price as a pair of new Q950s you could have got the outgoing R700s for £1300 or a pair of R500s for £899. Both these R Series speakers will easily outperform the Q950s. Can your return them? https://petertyson.co.uk/kef-r700-floorstanding-speakers-16624 https://petertyson.co.uk/kef-r500-floorstanding-speakers-16623
Here in the US R700 go for $1400 each, comparing to $900 each for my KEFs. Frankly I suspect that lack of midrange clarity might be due to that co-axial design, I heard Tannoys with similar design and their midrange also sounded kinda muffled.
Ah, Peter Tyson in Carlisle in the UK is a long way to come for a replacement speaker. What are you driving them with?
Plenty of power available. It may sound silly but do you have them wired correctly, black to black, red to red. If so then you should look at the speakers position in the room. A room can have a huge influence on how any speaker behaves.
