Looks like play.com are in on the act. Click here.

I have no idea how they are distance selling these because as far I was aware Kef didn't allow them to be sold over the internet. Oh well looks like play have got around it somehow!

Dont keff do a 5 year warranty on the speakers and 2 years on the sub???
If anyone buys these from play ,tell them the standard warranty and see what they say!!

Would it be worth buying these to 'upgrade' from the original KEF eggs, or is it money down the drain?

Are these definately Grey imports by the way? I know KEF don't allow them to be sold over the internet, but maybe Play have got hold of some stock and aren't aware of it/don't care?

    Just a thought,

These are almost certainly grey imports and/or unauthorised trans-shipped units, with a Play.com warranty, and their service facilites are? and when the sub goes pop they will just ring Kef and get a new amp module with their spares account?? and then have it fitted by a trained engineer with 30 years of expereince??? and will of course be able to supply extra speakers.

All I am saying is that there are dealers out there who will get very close to that price, high street dealers. reputable dealers, dealers you know and (in some cases) love! Who have invested in KEF, in the product and in demonstrating it. Who have invested in staff time and training, system matching, cabling advice. Is all that and a 5 year warranty worh ~£50?

    just a thought!

Presumable nobody bothered to go for these in the end then?

Because this voucher code: HCMNGXFYBC would get you an extra 5% off, which is £30 I believe.

Might there be an issue of VAT charges with Play, because they are based in the Channel Islands?

As I am in a weird mood, I did order these to see. And sure enough, all serial numbers have been removed. Even though the sales man on the phone swore blind they wouldnt be.

On the phone with them now heh.

    Any issue with VAT?

Is it all in proper packaging? What is your impression? Serial number issue apart, would you recommend them?

No VAT issue, I am returning them to be honest. RJ Home cinema do the KEF's at 800, but with 200quid of anything instock free. Weird way to do it, but I'm debating going there. I'm not keen on the idea that while I'm pretty sure these ARE kef's (hell, the in the boxes and stuff) with stuff as it is today I cannot be 100% sure. 600 quid for "not totally sure" is way too much imho.

Also play are being b**t**ds about this, and claiming they didnt know, yeah right they didnt.

note: to go visit RJ is a 480 mile return journey for me, so that says what I think of play :p

I can't imagine them being fake - I would be less worried about warranty issues if they sold just the speakers but as benji_m says above KEF subs have had and do have problems and that is when you want your warranty with them rather than some offshore company. I got my local Audio T to price match Creative Audio who were selling them for £649 and that was about a year ago (albeit that they now advertise them for TSP because of pressure from KEF). Deals can be done with regular dealers but they are just under pressure from KEF not to advertise the fact.

Hi - Lintone Audio in Newcastle (Metro Centre) are doing them for £699.99, although I guess you'd need to visit the shop to get them.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

Incidently, did Play deliver them by courier? And di you recieve 2 parcels or just the one? I can't remember if KEF sell the 2005.2's in 2 seperate boxes (one for speakers, one for Subwoofer)

Usually they just post stuff in the mail, but seeing as these are very expensive I wondered how they would deliver them.

I'd like to know if anyone got these in the end too. I'm pretty tempted, but would be happier if I knew what the warranty situation and therefore future resale value impact would be.

I see that mediacheckpoint have the silver 2005.2 for €745 (£500) and delivery is about €40. They also have the 5005 for €1,600 (£1,070).

Audio-T argood for price quite matching, but i would do the internet thing with Play myself, the speakers are very reliable. If anything will go wrong it would be in the first few weeks and normally with the sub.

Save your money bud! get a few extra films instead!!

otv - Can you give me a comment on your Kef 5005's. I'm thinking about getting these over the eggs and just wondered how they performed.

I'm probably going to buy the AX5Ai when it is released in a couple of months and am at the moment thinking of partnering speakers. The wife won’t let me get floor standers, so sub/sat is the only choice. I was initially looking at the eggs, but the 5005’s look a little subtler for our room rather than the futuristic style of the eggs.

Any positives/ negatives would be most welcome.
