Can anyone tell me if the Kef Coda 90's are any good?

Would be paired with a Marantz PM7200 amp and CD5400 CD?

I could also do with knowing if any good as just won a cheap Cresta 80 centre speaker in an ebay auction for a friends bedroom 2nd HT system.

Hence shameless bump of an old thread

These are very worthwhile speakers for their price. Why do you want to spend so little on speakers? Your amp and CD deserve more.

I'd recommend getting the Q1s for a bit more or even going secondhand for some. My experience of the old (highly rated) Coda 7s was that I trashed them very quickly with only slightly above moderate volume levels and that the cabinets fell apart....
The Q1s are some of the best budget speakers for the money, mine are still being enjoyed by my brother and are just out of warranty (5 years!)

    It's actually for a friend's 2nd system. He's got the main one downstairs (Sony AV/amp & Linn ?Kaber?'s

Just set up an NEC projector and he got the same A/V Amp as me. He's considering going for something better later, but looking for the budget side of things in the meantime. We won a Kef Coda 80 Centre speaker for about £30 on ebay on Sunday, so was looking for now to pair it up with matching Coda 70 & 90 pairs if possible.

Obviously if the Coda 80 isn't any good as a budget speaker for now it can be sold back on at this point.

I've suggested he try the Coda 80 first and sees what he thinks, and if he thinks it's ok for now, get the 70's and 90's off fleabay too.

He'll probably look at spending £1k on a package (Sub not needed for a while) in the coming months.

Dankeech, notice that it is steelee's thread so I answered him. For your friend they may be very good with the matching center.

Thanks anway. I'll try to remember to post some info on how the Coda 80 sounds when arrives as may help judge the 90's
