I have just bought my first "proper" home cinema package which is KEF 2005.2's plus a Yamaha RXV540 receiver.

On the back of my receiver I have a single socket sub output whereas on the back of the sub, the only input is a L + R socket ie. 2 sockets. I have a decent sub lead which only has one plug on each end.

Should I buy a different type of lead or should I just plug the sub lead in to either the L or R input on the back of the sub? Will this work just as well and if so, does it matter whether I choose the L or R socket?

    Thank you!

Plug the cable into the Left input of the sub.

Not sure if it actually makes a difference if you use the Right socket on the sub, but the instructions say to us ethe Left, and mine sounds just fine :)

Not sure myself, but I would think you would need to plug into both L & R.

Try it with just one, see what it sounds like, but I would think you would need to plug into both of those.

Y-Splitter Cable? I've heard these mentioned before with regard to splitting a single cable?

Out of interest, where did you get your 2005.2 from and how much? Interested in getting one of these myself.

This is what the instructions, here, seem to suggest.
    Good luck.

Thanks to all - didn't think to look at the Kef site... :suicide:

Now there's a story here... Creative Audio are offering them in one of two guises 1) £799 including 30m QED silver anniv. cabling plus a QED sub lead - see http://www.creative-audio.co.uk/KHT2.htm

Or the other option is £649 plus 35m of 79-strand cabling plus a sub-lead (not shown on the web site). The problem for me is that they are in Shrewsbury which is a long way from where I live (and of course, Kef restrict their authorised retailers and do not let them mail order). However, Audio T have a price matching policy so I called them up and told them of the deal and they offered me a full set for £650 plus 35m QED micro and a 5m sub lead.

I have to say that Audio T were excellent, there was no snobbery (which I have experienced from many "specialist" stores) and they were more than happy with the deal with no sense of begrudging me the speakers under that offer.

    From creative audio yea?

Any idea if they do any deals on the kht 1005 that are not on their web site?

Yeah - from Creative Audio.... I phoned them to see if they were doing deals on the KHT 1005's and (I think from memory) he was doing them for £450. He said that I would be much better off with the 2005.2's and when I explained I was budget driven, he then mentioned that he is selling the 2005.2's with the 79-strand cabling for just £649 - which was good enough me so I spent that little bit extra (albeit with another shop!).

I have since seen (but not heard) the 1005's and have to say that they look weedy in comparison to the 2005.2's - 2005.2's look a lot sexier!

Tried to get sevenoaks to price match, they won't though :(

Are there no Audio T stores in London? I've had a look and can't find any :(

I can confirm that Audio-t will price match Creative - they did it for me about five weeks ago. Also they price matched the two pairs of stands!!

    Good guys.

No, I've found sevenoaks just charge full whack and that's it!! have you checked www.audio-t.co.uk to see where there stores are? I would paste a link to locations but their site was down at the time of writing.... however, I know there is definitely one is Epsom if you can get there?

Yea just had a look, can definately get there(epsom).

I'll have to have a think, can I really justify spending £500 on speakers?

This is my problem too. Can I really justify spending £830 for the KEF 2005.2 system and one pair of stands (allegedly the best offer my local KEF dealer in Belfast can make). Seems aweful steep, when compared to the deal on with Creative Audio or Audio T. They will not price match. And I'd have to get speaker cable and then a receiver on top of that.
I'm having a bit of a crisis of conscience here. I know the speakers are good, but £830 good? Hence my new shortlist on the thread asking about the 1005's.

the only comment i can offer is that i rigged my 2005.2's up properly last night with QED Micro cabling and decent sub lead, all the speakers in their rightful place and it did sound fantastic!

Even playing CD's in my DVD (Pioneer DV464) via the amp (Yam RXV540), the sound was great (for my novice ears). I was also watching TV with an analogue L&R output from my Cable box going into analogue L&R ins on my amp and the surround sound acheived was great!

I certaily do not regret buying them but would certainly have to think long and hard if i had to spend £800 PLUS £100 extra on cabling / stands etc.

The only comparison I can make is with a set of Tannoy FX5.1's which I bought from Richers a week or two ago on their recommendation (£250) but they were crap and went straight back to the shop! I have heard that Mordaunt Short Premier pack is supposed to be good for around £300 - £400 or the Mission pack at a similar price (sorry, can't remember the model.. M - something, 70's?). But they are larger and are cabinet type rather than the cooler sat style of the Kef's. It would certainly be interesting to hear from anyone who has got / heard the 1005's as a comparison.

It seems you are doing Sevenoaks a grave injustice(or the sheffield branch anyway), they were very happy to pricematch Creative Audios price of £650 for me.

Well I loved the 1005's, but everyone says the 2005's are SO much better? Not sure in what way exactly? More bass from the sats and a better sub?

Well sevenoaks said they wouldn't price match someone who was like 300 miles away and said if you want quality service you pay the price for it, unlike at other stores. I think they were having a dig at Creative Audio which isn't good.

Thing is, what do they want to do? Count the units in stock? Or count the amount in sales? If they don't price match am I REALLY likely to buy them from them? I think not...

What about the Aego 5 Pack? Anything good about those? I've heard good things but if I was spending that much money(£400) I'd rather just get the Kef 1005's.

    OH the agony of choosing!

    Darth,
Superfi online is doing the Aego5 pack for £379, if it matters.
Not having heard the AE pack or the KEF 1005 pack I can't help here. But I'm in the same boat rowing with a very short paddle at the mo. I'm a bit miffed at KEF's no shipping policy, to be honest. Let me know what you decide.
    Jim
BTW, what receiver/amp will you be using to drive it all?
