Hi I hope this is the right place to put this I was about to update my 1 year Kaspersky Internet Anti Virus software.
I want to ask is there anything better out there nowadays or should I stick to this one as it is only £12.
I was also given this free sometime ago should I keep this or delete this Update to the latest Advanced SystemCare 14 to enjoy ultimate PC performance - IObit
I am using Windows &. Thanks for any Advice Given

Delete that SystemCare 14 straight away. That sort of PC cleaning software is more trouble than it is worth.

I use Sophos Home for antivirus. It's free.

Hello once again Greg Hope you and your family are well and safe Just looked at the above in what you recommended but it says only free trail not free or have I got the wrong one here?

Unless they have changed the trial should just revert to a free version, but not sure now.

If you’re pc savvy and not visiting or loading dodgy software then windows defender and a good backup might be good enough.
If in doubt there’s always online scans you can run. maybe use a free malware if you’re worried.

I’ve not bought anti virus for years. Never had a problem..
...famous last words..

I am not PC Savvy Greg as You know from my past History on here :suicide: :facepalm: The Windows I have is Windows 7 by the way:(

TBH of you still use Win7 (and I’m not judging you personally - there are many reasons for sticking with it) you might need something more than Windows Defender. Having said that I have used Defender and Malwarebytes as my only virus and malware programs for many years now in a lot of versions of Windows - I pay for Malwarebytes Premium nowadays but free was fine.

personally I don’t think any of the other “all on one” antivirus etc programs are worth it. I don’t even use the free trials that are installed on new PCs - uninstall software and ignore all warnings about losing the free trial. Install MWB and done.

Would this Malwarebytes Protect me against Internet Virus etc

It looks like the free version is time limited to 14 days now. It is an antivirus nowadays and IIRC it “replaces” Defender as the PC antivirus.......

it’ll protect Win 7 no problem though.

As others have said stay away from SystemCare 14 - they cause more trouble than they cure. If you are happy with Kaspersky then stick with that.

So after 14 days do i just sign up again for 14 days free trail? Or buy the paid version? or just pay £12 for the Kaspy one? Thanks

the free version has nag screens suggesting you upgrade to the paid version. I would gladly just pay £12 for the paid version.

Hi All, - Just found this Thread . . . .
My Win10 PC has Kaspersky - but I notice it is asking to load an update, which appears to be free. Anyone else find this is happening?... and is this just as new attacks are discovered?...
However, I got the impression it was "more features" rather that straight "protection updates".

What are your experiences with this software?.... I get the impression this is the best-value for the level of protection (( Computer Shopper Tests, -when you could still buy Newsstand copies.)). . . but it would be nice if it confirmed it was actually working...

Cheers

Barclays Bank used to offer me free Kaspersky that I used to install. Now a days I don’t run anything except some anti malware and Microsoft AV. But then I know not to click bait or visit dodgy sites. If you do any of the above I’ll say purchase something... I used to find it much less intrusive than say Norton AV that i found hard to remove/replace with any other AV.

Number one thing is pc backups.. have more than one and test every now and then. you can also run free AV scans online using larger companies if you so wish. Or for peace of mind.. purchase bit defender or KAV as it’s not a bad AV from what I read... certainly not as intrusive as Norton AV...
All the above is my opinion and I’m not a specialist in any way...
Last thing to note...this may or may not bother you is that it’s Russian software...I believe that’s why Barclays stopped supplying it for free.. ahh find it. Pasted below..

Barclays has stopped offering free Kaspersky anti-virus products to new customers following an official warning about Russian security software. The bank emailed 290,000 online banking customers on Saturday to say the move was a "precautionary decision"

Well said, but I'd not trust Banks for advice - current;y their financial advice is a tad shaky - The suggestion being that their credit cards comes with section (19 -85, 95... I forget which,), to give some protection against fraudulent transactions over £100 . . . yet this is true for ANY credit card... something they try to omit.

Whilst "being careful" is good advice... I really doubt folk that have been Duped are actively seeking fraud. The whole point is the fraudster hones their pitch until it works . . . and they only need to be "lucky" once or twice to be very rich, at almost zero-cost.

Computer-based fraud is assisted by difficult to read web-addresses and the use of sans typefaces where i (as in ice), and l (as in leather) are very similar . . as well as zero and O (as in orange) - such minute sources of errors can't matter to 99% of the population... but sometimes our eyesight may be below-par, or glasses dirty and "We don't notice" - so why aren't these possibilities flagged-up? Making the address-space larger is an easy fix.... but software developers don't appear to care.... let alone our politicians. I have a 42 inch screen, but error-messages are in text barely 4mm high - why is this? One can enlarge Icons, but the text remains small... as far as I know... try using the Magnifier and it's pathetic. Windows wastes a lot of space above and below the "working area" which tells us... something.... dunno.

Cheers....H.

FWIW . . . if you choose more that 150% enlarge ( CNTRL + Scroll wheel ), the forums are invisible as the advertisement overlaps.... Thus, it "appears" you can't find a new thread, etc. This must be due to the different framing options that have forgotten the enlarging....

Well, considering that they didn't replace Kaspersky with an "approved" anti-virus application, cynical me feels that it was Barclays using a dubious security concern as an excuse to stop providing free anti-virus software as a cost cutting exercise. If they had online security and "precaution" in mind, then they'd have offered something else.

As for chaz's question, if he's been happy with Kaspersky and isn't computer savvy, then for £12 it might be worth sticking with it. For what it's worth, Kaspersky is one of the better anti-virus applications. However, it's not too difficult to remove Kaspersky and replace it with something else. Windows' own anti-virus should be good enough, but I'm not sure if what's given to Windows 7 users is the same as you get in Windows 10 (or whether you can get Windows' own anti-virus for Windows 7, as I believe it's not installed by default, but maybe someone else knows more). If you can get it for Windows 7, then that'd be fine to use instead of Kaspersky.

Also still on W7 - everything beyond it still really all lots of the old stuff surrounded
by shells and bolt-ons. Windows "10" must really be "15" by now if not worse!

Only ever use/trust Norton these days - since can get FIVE "devices" per 12-month contract for £89 or whatever - have the three family member PCs/laptops and both mobiles on the contract.
