CD-WOW have the new self-titled album from Kasabian listed as a DualDisc. I wasn't aware that DualDisc was being pioneered yet, but this seems to be the first instance of it that I was aware of.

Does anyone know any more about DualDisc and any future releases that are being planned?

    This is a weird one.
I know that some DualDiscs have been released, but that was only
on a trial basis. Some news on those releases can be found here....
    http://www.highfidelityreview.com/features/dualdisc.asp

As for Kasabian, it is available for pre-order as a Dual Disc on a few sites
but there is no information regarding sound specs.
I couldn't help but notice that all the retailers were advertising it as
Dual Disc rather than the one word DualDisc which the format is to be
called. Could it be just a normal cd plus a dvd of their video's
Here's the latest news I could find regarding the future of dualdisc....

QUOTE: "Could it be just a normal cd plus a dvd of their video's "

cd-wow specifically states 'Audio Side...' and 'DVD side...' so me thinks not.

AND you're right, most retailers are saying Dual Disc when it is DualDisc. And www.dualdisc.com just says 'Coming Soon'. Very helpful!

    Good point.
If it is a genuine DualDisc, it's good to see that the studio's are making
a greater effort in marketing the discs
What's the point in releasing two versions if both have an identical cd
content as may be the case with Kasabian....http://www.cd.edirectory.co.uk/cd_megastore/pages/default.asp?recordid=BECHA&cid=1668
All the studio has to do is slap a sticker on the case saying that it will play on all cd players.
I've seen SACD discs amongst the cd's in my local Tesco and that's what should happen with DualDiscs when they are released.
If this format is to succeed then they are going to have to release every
    album in DualDisc only.
The only drawback I can see regarding the studios is the extra production costs. If it means that the price of the discs will be higher than current cd's
then it will fail imo. If the price remains the same then it could be at the
expense of investment in new artists. It's a tricky one but I hope that
    DualDisc will be a success.

For new albums, yes, if it is on DualDisc and the same/similar price to a normal CD, then that's fine. I'd buy it.

    HOWEVER...

I am not prepared to buy a DualDisc of an album I already own if it doesn't have a surround sound mix (or higher-quality audio mix at worst). DVD videos on the other side would not sway me to part with my old CDs if there was not something more substantial to entice me :lesson:

Well I know nothing about Dual disc but I like Kasabian and today's fascinating fact is that the girl at the end of the "Club Foot" video, standing in front of the BMP is the sister of the Mordaunt Short Human Resources lady.

Bet you feel better for knowing that :).
