I've only seen it as an in-flight movie (BA do them uncut these days, which is nice) so perhaps best if I don't opine to a great degree.
Some tense scenes, but with a lot of dodgy accents. Difficult to appreciate the actions of many of the crew, without further cold-war background info (a-la 13 Days) - more on-land 'dialogue' and a little less on board might have worked better. Better with the knowledge that it was a true story.
Nice performance from Liam Neeson, though maybe he's a little tall for the 'silent service'! Solid back up from secondary characters, and Harrison Ford is, well, Harrison Ford....
Amusingly the Soviet reactor looks like a 1930s immersion heater which on reflection probably wasnt far from the truth!
Hunt for Red October remains my 'ultimate' sub(mariner) movie (and yes, that includes 'Das Boot')
An average 3/5 from me - not a keeper, IMO, but worth a watch all the same.
